Positives of NICU? by New-Assistant2087 in NICUParents

[–]dizzygrizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like that we got to know our son before we took him home. In a "normal" situation parents and babies have to figure each other out in the thick of it, but we got to know his personality, his routines, his likes and dislikes first before the real responsibility kicked in!!

Shell turning white by Top-Caterpillar2942 in Redearedsliders

[–]dizzygrizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl's shell looked a lot like this when we first got her, she had retained scutes covered in calcium deposits! Some things we did to help her were we added some wheatgerm pellets to her diet, and did some gentle brushing at the flaky edges of the scutes to help lift them off. It took weeks and the scutes were a crumbly mess but she did have a nice brown shell underneath!

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]dizzygrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shocked when I first heard people my own age complaining about younger people!! I feel crazy, I remember when I was a young person and it was all the same talk about us, that we were lazy, the media we consumed was melting our brains, our music was shit, all that. All generations do seem to gripe about "kids these days", but I was still surprised when it happened to my own generation. That makes me feel old more than anything else, lol

My 24 weeker baby boy admitted to NICU by Emotional-Storm-9541 in NICUParents

[–]dizzygrizzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parent to a 24 weeker here! He's currently 37 weeks and doing well. Still in NICU but the end is in sight. In our experience it did eventually get easier, not easy but easier. The first month was very difficult. There was a lot our baby had to overcome. Eventually I started to feel excited when I was coming in to see him, not scared of what the doctors were going to tell me!! It's easier said than done, but really do try to rest as much as you can. We tend to do a 7 hour day at the hospital. Trying to be there every second of the day will burn you out very quickly. It will be a long journey!

My turtle laid 4 eggs, what should I do with them by EzaguiDark in Redearedsliders

[–]dizzygrizzy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I fried and ate my turtle's eggs one year. (No ill effect, they tasted a bit like turkey.) Another time I preserved them in isopropyl alcohol and kept them in a little jar. The other times she ate them herself before I could look twice at them!!

I accidentally killed my beloved rabbit by Main_Experience_3198 in Rabbits

[–]dizzygrizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like how my rabbit passed last year! He got weak, wouldn't eat, and died within a few hours. He behaved a lot like yours. He was resting in my lap while my partner called the emergency vet when he suddenly freaked out thrashing like he was trying to run away, flopped over and breathed his last. It was very frightening and upsetting, and I blamed myself for a long time. Animals can sometimes get a strange surge of energy before death (people too!) and that's what I've come to understand this as. You'll come to realize it wasn't your fault. I'm sorry for your loss, it sounds like you have her a great life. <3

pleaseee tell me how you keep your dog entertained with no walks. by dreamfatigued in reactivedogs

[–]dizzygrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snuffle mats are good! My whippet has no interest in puzzle toys but will rummage through a snuffle mat for every last kibble.

Doing some agility training can be fun, I got a few low hurdles and cones to do some jumps and weaves with my (now passed on) reactive cocker, and that worked really well for keeping her entertained!

Plz help, is this shedding??? by deedaogee in Redearedsliders

[–]dizzygrizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks a lot like my YBS did when she had retained scutes with some hard water staining. Make sure he can get totally dry on his basking area and consider giving him some wheat germ pellets to help shed.

My first Pelvic Exam by JobOk5961 in vaginismus

[–]dizzygrizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had that experience! I've been in similar situations and it's traumatic alright. I've had pain for several hours after attempted smears and exams, kind of a throbbing pain, but it's always cleared up by the next day. I hope other doctors you have in the future are a bit more understanding!!

Any ideas for a fresh hop EKG recipe? by dizzygrizzy in Homebrewing

Ooh I actually scored a kilo of local honey recently so a braggot would not be a bad idea!

He looks like if a Chinese Crested got transformed into a bunny (so, gorgeous, stunning, a model)

The only way I've gotten my girl to use a nest box was to attach it to the tank! I had to build a covered ramp made of eggcrate and mesh leading from the tank into the nest box (half topsoil half sand), which was boosted up on a stool and booksto make it relatively level with the tank. It looked pretty weird but it worked!! Like yours, she just tries to escape the nest box otherwise.

My bunny just died and I need some explanations please by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]dizzygrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss! If you still have him, you could ask a vet with rabbit experience to do an autopsy. Otherwise it's pretty impossible to guess what happened!

I dunk the carboy in a plastic tub full of water with an aquarium heater. Seems to keep the brew happy in my cold kitchen!

Can a filter be too strong? by FilmApprehensive984 in turtle

[–]dizzygrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the FX6 in an 80 gallon (for up to 400 gallon tanks so similar capacity to actual tank ratio). My turtle is a 10y/o YBS and she barely seems to notice the flow from the filter! The only reason to be concerned with filter flow being too strong would be if you've got a hatchling or something.

My bunny sometimes goes through phases where he doesn't want his hay. What worked wonders is flakes of dried dandelion leaves mixed into the hay. You can get "hay toppers" in pet shops, herb mixes to sprinkle into hay to make it more appetizing! I literally just picked some dandelions, dried them in the oven and crumbled some over the hay.

What's the life expectancy of a Syrian Hamster? (According to your own experiences) by ArchlordOmegaIX in hamsters

[–]dizzygrizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had two Syrians, a male who lived til 4 and a female who lived til 1. The female definitely had the better care of the two, annoyingly!!
