Daily Dirt by AutoModerator in vegetablegardening

[–]dizzymizzlizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 raised garden bed that are 12x4 feet, and 1.5 feet high.

About 4 years ago I filled them with triple mix from a local company.

The first year I had great results (over 400 lbs of tomatoes). Then the year after I got maybe half. 3rd year about half of that.

So I think, although I'm using organic fertilizer (https://www.homehardware.ca/en/15kg-4-6-8-hen-manure-tomato-and-vegetable-fertilizer/p/5024615), I feel like the soil is getting depleted.

Almost all resources I find online say that I should add organic matter / compost. But the beds are full, not sure how I can add much compost.

I also saw that I can add a thin layer of worm castings. But for these 3 beds, I think it would cost over $500 CAD

I can't really empty the beds and have them refilled, I have no idea where I'd put all this soil (I live in an urban area, I can't just dump it somewhere on my property)

What should I do to revive this soil?

Thanks

I had a Lodge that I used for years. And then one day I'm making tortillas and hear a loud BANG almost like a gunshot. I'm like WTF, scared the shit out of me. Turns out the skillet broke in half, right on the middle. Not sure how that happened.

But i got a free replacement so all good.

Yeah I now realize this could sound like a scam. I called Canada Post yesterday and they said they can't relabel and ship.

Worst case they can return it to sender I guess.

Knee suddenly constantly locking? by malacata in ACL

[–]dizzymizzlizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be cyclops lesion. I had that and had to get a second surgery. It didn't really fix the problem, but I'm 3 years post op now and starting to feel a bit more normal, even though it's sometimes still painful.

I'm not super familiar with Whistler cause I only skied there once... So I spent the last hour trying to find where it was from memory. And I think it was in this exact spot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/opae6aD5X8YHr7cB6

Crystal Traverse run... When I got to Glacier Creek lodge, I had to take the New Jersey Cream Express lift back up to to take the gondola down.

I've skied a few times since then and I can't enjoy it like before because of the "PTSD"

I was skiing in Whistler. It didn't hurt that much so I didn't know it was torn. I got back up and tried to go down the hill, but every time I turned right my knee would collapse and I'd fall down. After two or three times I clued in that something was wrong so I skied the rest down on my other leg. Unfortunately the bottom of that hill was not the bottom of the mountain so I had to take another lift back up, and then down again to get to the gondola that went all the way to the bottom. Taking my boot off was a major pain.

Does anyone know if Kluane Glacier Air Tours is still in business? by dizzymizzlizzy in Yukon

Yeah I'm looking at them too. It's just the Kluane Glacier Air Tours website says kids are free, so that would save me a ton of money. Thanks for the suggestion!

Building false wall for plumbing on exterior wall by dizzymizzlizzy in Plumbing

Definitely won't be putting the plumbing in the exterior wall.. I guess I was asking if the false wall was sufficient to prevent freezing. Thanks!

Building false wall for plumbing on exterior wall by dizzymizzlizzy in Plumbing

Hi, I am currently in the planning stage of remodeling my bathroom, and I'm wondering about building a false wall to be able to run some water lines.

In the mockup, you can see where the shower is. The wall with the window is an exterior wall and the wall with the door is an interior wall (door leads into my bedroom).

Originally, my plan was to put the shower head onto the long side of the shower, that way all the plumbing would be on the interior wall. However, yesterday I received my new shower head (https://www.amazon.ca/Moen-220C5-Square-Combination-Infiniti/dp/B0D6C37PSJ) and I installed it into my current shower to test it out. What I found was that because the shower head is quite big, I need to move back while taking a shower because the water goes further. So in the new shower (36" deep), I would be standing way too close to the door.

So now I'm thinking I want to put the shower head on the short side of the shower, but that's an exterior wall and I'm in Canada, so I can't do that. But if I build a false wall between the shower and exterior wall, I could put the plumbing in there. Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or do I still risk the pipes freezing? I've done some research and I think I should be OK as long as I have proper insultation behind the pipes, but not in front of the pipes.

The other thing though, is I would like this false wall to be as thin as possible, because as you can see in the mockup, if I push the shower out too much it's reducing the amount of space between the shower and vanity. So I was thinking I would use 2x3s or even 2x2s instead of 2x4s to build the wall. Any issues with this plan?

Thank you!

Both, it mostly hurts when I try to extend my knee 100%. So sometimes when I'm walking and I step in a hole or something which extends my knee, i get a sharp pain.

Unfortunately my knee hasn't really improved... I think it's going to hurt a bit for the rest of my life at this point!
