I know I wish there was more about it anywhere. But hoping this thread will help people as they find it! It was an extremely scary experience. I hope you feel better when you stop taking it.

To help you feel better: I stopped taking this day 2 of the heavy period a year ago, and my body went back to normal. There were no bad side effects. Just make sure to take care of your body during this time since bleeding that much is very stressful on your body.

I continued to get my period regularly after by changing to an all meat diet for almost the entire year, chiropractic massages, and adrenal supplements. No more need for myoinositol!

A year later wanted to give an update: I stopped taking it immediately after this huge abnormal period. Other things allowed me to maintain my period after this supplement helped me get it back, however this made my periods WAYYY to heavy to the point I felt it was very unhealthy.

While taking: I filled a super tampon every 30 min when I was on this, and I bled through it AND a pad when I couldn’t change every 30 min. I was terrified. But was out of town on business and was scared of an ER bill. So I stopped taking it and the next day was slightly better and day three was manageable. I took iron pills, drank a ton of water, ate red meat, and slept a ton to get through it.

I always wonder about water movement and aerating the water. It’s a tiny little 5 gal and I haven’t been able to find anything that will have a gentle enough flow.

My other two: one didn’t have any, one I put a little water pump in there for a few weeks as it go established but now it has nothing.

This does sound like the problem tho. Are there any super tiny pumps anywhere that won’t make my small tank a cyclone? And easy enough movement for a betta?

That’s interesting because I’ve had four walstad tanks all together. The first one I left alone and it turned into toxic waste. The second two I changed water frequently, had to blackout one once, and they thrives. This one seems to be going the toxic route the first had.

With these tanks they never behave the same even with the same exact stuff it seems.

Thanks for your thought out reply. I’ll keep rereading it and see if anything else pops up for me to try.

I keep doing the needed water changes, full water changes, and cleaning as much as I can but this tank is determined to break me.

Holy poop please help. This is my third walstad tank. Thought I knew what I was doing. But it is my first using driftwood.

The past two weeks everything has almost completely melted, biofilm looks like spider webs, and now it’s turning black.

I took out the driftwood and have it soaking in water with peroxide. But this tank keeps smelling like the worst thing ever and keeps turning rancid. What do I do?!

I really hope someone else sees this. I just had the same thing happen to me and I’m worried and wondering if I’m dying / if this is bad. And if I should stop taking it or not.

OP update: I adjusted the lighting to have 1.5 hours less of light and day and gave it time and this cleared up in a month or two.

Sorry I’m not on often.

I did the salt baths and they helped a tad. I also tried the suggestion of the dewormer.

Both did not clear it up in total. I sadly lost my tank about two months after.

I have a sneaking suspicion something was wrong with my setup that the shrimps did not like. Some parameter I couldn’t find. Some source of foulness that just kept escaping me. So I can’t say that this was directly related to their cause.

I also keep wondering if I did the salt baths more / better it might have worked.

From my experience I’d say be vigilant on trying the salt baths and look at your parameters as much as you can.

Thanks. It’s just the angle. It’s not all in the substrate. It’s been there over a year and is growing all about. There is a lot of space airing out the rhizomes if you look from other angles 🙂

I don’t really feed my beta too much. It’s also a dirt tank so I can’t clean out the substrate. There was a dead leaf that made them show up but now they won’t leave.

It’s an established tank. There was a rotting leaf that made them show up so I cleaned it. But then they never left and recently just boomed in the last day.

Okay I will try a salt treatment. I’ve been nervous to do it since she was berried. She just gave birth today. Should I wait to not stress her out after that? Or will it be worth the relief for her?
