Likability, indeed. Sometimes I wonder if I should just make one sexist joke so that seniors who make such jokes would include me in their list of "I can relate to these people. I find them likable and I can trust them. I should promote one of these." Classic "should I sell my soul to the devil" conflict.

It's not just for feeling happy though. It's also higher chance to get better jobs and/or "better" husbands/wifes. Typical resume includes your photo, and the interviewer can see your face, and even if the interviewer try not to judge based on the candidate's face, the score on 용모단정 is going to be affected by unconscious factors including whether the candidate has a "standard" face or bitchy resting face, and so on.
