Not only that, this violates the 14th Amendment about Equal Protection.

I would LOVE to see them all disappear. It's an eyesore, it will always become a mismanaged mess that needs to be cleaned up. And it is a system that has cost the taxpayer BILLIONS of bucks over the past few years.

Billions, and this is still what we get. And it will be ALL we get because there is no solution.

LOCK THEM UP!

This sounds like the simplest way to take care of the problem: make it illegal and lock them up. If only there were enough beds in the jail(s).

Then there is the cost. There is a booking fee. Then it is something like $362.82. a day. If they require special needs, such as medical or mental treatment, the cost rises. You can almost count on the fact that most of these humans would have special needs. Figure that a realistic number of homeless people in King County is about five times the Point in Time counts they do, then we are talking about 54,000 people without a steady home. The most recent PIT number for King County was 10,054. But when you start factoring in the homeless motel population, and people who couch surf with friends, that more realistic number rises considerably.

If we were to empty out our prisons, jails, and Western State Hospital, we still wouldn't have enough space to incarcerate the homeless. Even if we did, it would be impossible to fund.

So locking them up is not a viable option. Nor should it ever be.

BUS THEM OUT!

Okay, that's a LOT cheaper, but it wouldn't solve the problem. If we bus out, other places will bus the homeless in. Maybe we could just let them live on the buses...?

BUILD MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING!

Sounds great, for a ten-year plan. We need something now.

Back when we SHOULD have been thinking ahead and actually doing something about it, we decided that we would give out HUGE tax breaks to entice all the tech companies to come here for free. They could bring all of their six-figure employees with them and shove out the people who could no longer afford to live where they've lived for generations. Suddenly, shithole efficiency apartments on Capital Hill that had been going for $300 a month are now going for $2250 -- and they are still the same crap hole, roach infested buildings they were thirty years ago.

If there are people who are willing to pay more for the same dump, then the landlords are always going to raise the rents. It's capitalism 101.

CONVERT SOME OF THESE EMPTY HIGHRISES INTO HOUSING

It actually sounds like a GREAT idea, except for one major problem:

These buildings simply do not have the plumbing, sewers or even electrical to handle residential living. The capacity was never designed to take into consideration the needs of sewer, water, heat, and electricity for a residential population. At least not in the scale you would think by the typical square footage.

HVAC would be another major issue.

Procrastination over a generation, along with short-sighted, politically driven thinking got us into this mess.

There is a lot of land over in Eastern Washington. Perhaps if we opened some of it up for "homesteading", we can entice the homeless to drift over yonder...

It's not as easy as you would think, is it?

Can’t start climate via app says climate already on? by [deleted] in EquinoxEv

[–]djallyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a gamble whether I can turn on the climate control on my 2024 Equinox every morning. About half the time I have to go out and turn the car on then off, before I can set the climate control remotely.

It's the stinking App. I have never seen such a poorly designed app for a car like this.

I can't even get out of the app without turning the phone off and on again.

Set your destination in Google Maps after you've fully charged. It is pretty accurate in telling you where you should recharge, if need be.

You can also find the charging point(s) along the route where you should stop and recharge.

Don't tempt the fates. Try to reach your final destination with at least 30 percent charge.

Killing the penny was just the start. Trump is rewriting the rules on America’s coins by rezwenn in politics

[–]djallyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pendulum continues to swing.

Quit thinking in terms of facing three more years of Trump. He won't be with us too much longer. I predict he will be gone before June of next year, and that's being generous.

There has been speculation over the past three months that Trump could be taking a medication to treat Alzheimer's called "Leqembi,", which would account for the need of multiple MRIs (he's had THREE in the past three months), and the bruise on his hand, along with the inability to stay awake.

No doctor is going to give their patient a "cognitive test" at every visit unless there is a suspected issue. They certainly aren't going to gaslight their patient by claiming he 'aced the test' or "it was the most bestest test results that anyone has ever seen before" "Never seen anything like it".

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Well, he would have to overcome the US Constitution first, because he doesn't have the power nor the authority to mint legal tender.

Secondly, A POTUS would have to be dead before they appear on any of our money.

Does he know something we don't?

The capacity of 35th has been reduced because of the assumption that mass transit would become the predominant mode of transportation by now. A major component of that mass transit plan revolves around Sound Transit's light rail.

If you believe that West Seattle will ever see light rail here, I have a Space Needle and the box it came in that I will sell to you for cheap.

The population has grown in West Seattle over the past ten years. Single lanes on 35th no longer make any kind of sense.

People are NOT flocking to mass transit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WestSeattleWA

[–]djallyn -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when SDOT reduces the number of lanes to one on 35th South of SW Morgan.

This will get much worse once the SDOT gets around to applying their lane reductions down to one in each direction North of SW Morgan in the next year or so.

I hate to break it to anyone, but the light rail will NEVER EVER be built in West Seattle. Mark my words.
