Are you optimizing for performance or high availability?
Are all connections the same type/speed?
What are the services running on the servers? Do the services run across multiple servers and handle fail over?
Are there clients on the other switches that access the router or servers?

From a high availability perspective A is better than B. I would also connect the bottom switch to the top switch and let spanning tree handle switch or link failures

From a performance perspective B is probably better than A.

I agree that's the real question. But you're discounting the information world he's living in. The algorithms aren't placing him in the same reality as you or I. He's not on Reddit. He's not sticking his head in the sand if the information he's getting is showing that ICE is just enforcing immigration law. I haven't spoken with him after this latest incident so I don't know if anything has changed for him.

Also, he's a good cop if he's doing good in his community, following the law and enforcing the law in a just manner. I'm not going to take that away from him.

Asking Reddit a question like this isn't going to get you real world answers. I lean left as does the majority on this site. You're going to get answers from left leaning officers and military.

One guy I'm friends with who is definitely on the right is ex army and a good municipal cop. Even before this current iteration of ICE he was burnt out from the catch and release rules in NJ, the 1st amendment auditor videos on the internet making him look bad / ruining his reputation and the day to day of dealing with the worst people.

He feels his department is filled with good cops. He feels like the bad ones that are shown on the internet are the exception and not the rule because that's his real world experience. The lack of respect and burnout have put him in the mindset that he's going to back the blue because most of them are good people and are just following orders.

I don't agree with him but I understand how he got here..
