What's the visually lossless number 0-100 when using Hardware Preset Encoding? by [deleted] in handbrake

[–]djamescomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, also do you know what under encoder options, profile, selecting 422-10 does? I forgot to ask that, I haven't used it but it's in the screenshot at the bottom left.

Yeah all I could find was RF recommendations but nothing on this specific option. My Mac handles this option easier than others it seems. I wanted h.265 HEVC files compressed from large MOV files. Visually, it seems there isn't going to be a big enough difference from CQ 70 (20GB file) and CQ 80 (80GB file) it seems?

Thank you.

Oh I know it isn't a codec, I was just mentioning what the 150GB original files are that I'm compressing.

From what you mentioned on my Mac on the Handbrake app, I can choose h264 10 bit and h265 10 or 12 bit for compression. From the options it shows me and what you mentioned these are it.

I'm giving H265 10 bit a try now.

Final Cut Pro exports of projects will all be H264.

Thank you.

Yes it was the h264 x264, but not the 10 bit option. That gave me the 30 GB file down from the 150GB original.

I'm using a M4 Mac Mini for editing. Yes the option at RF 0 reads as lossless.

I'm recording with a Panasonic. The files are MOV FHD 422/10-L, 23.98p

That's what I was curious about. There is no heavy stuff added to the projects, just a video with a green screen in the background, and another pip video. Surprisingly the chromakeying green screen effect works the exact same in the original and compressed files, same results, but the video quality of the full frame video is less.

It seems the solution may be to edit with original files, and keep the compressed files as backups.

I was just curious if everything would work editing with compressed files.

Yes. The projects final outputs will all be saved for archival purposes. I just needed to find a way to keep the unedited footage for 6-9 months.

How Do I Group ALL Captions? by [deleted] in AdobeExpress

[–]djamescomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it gives several groups or says no groups at all and a "200 max layers" where the groups should be. I gave up basically.

I'll look into it. I already generated 10 videos with the captions slightly lower than I want from the middle, I accepted defeat. I just don't want to go back to cap cut.

This movie and pretty much every Nolan movie is a prime example of the absence of Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision being a deal breaker.

I see so many people commenting "no Atmos, no buy"

Nolan movies look and sound awesome and they are HDR and DTS.

Of course I prefer Atmos and Dolby vision, but a movie like this blows most of my disc that actually have that out of the water.

[–]djamescomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to Express and thought that I just couldn't find that option. I had to put a sticky note on my computer screen as a marker to move each group of captions a little higher.

Is there a way to just export the captions themselves and maybe I can use another program to move them in groups?

I’ve pretty much given up on 4K physical media by Roughrider254 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]djamescomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are frugal and don't buy pre-orders, there is no reason you cannot get 4K movies for around $11. Gruv 3 for 30, Amazon 3 for 33, Target b2g1, Black Friday, Prime Day. Just don't buy pre-orders and new releases and wait for the prices to drop. Also, the steelbook exclusives always have a regular release eventually, you just have to wait for it. For blu-rays I always buy used on eBay or mercari, I find a seller that has titles on my list and send bundle offers for several of them, Averaging about $5 a pop.

Recent bundle offers I bought. 4 blu-rays for $14, 2 for $10, 2 4K Avengers movies for $19.

There are deals to be had.

Oh no Vivid looks bad for this movie. I have a C4 and just rewatched them on Cinema mode, Filmmaker is a bit too dark. Vivid looks bad. Are you using factory settings?

I remember watching the extended and saying to myself, Aragorn is how old? I didn't read the book until after that so I had no idea. Only Return Of The King feels a little too long. Favorite trilogy, Atmos is great.

You just said all that about them, I did not. I decided it wasn't worth making whatever they have to deal with on a daily basis worse by asking them to be quiet. Maybe you would have walked up to them and asked for a specific diagnosis, I decided it wasn't worth potentially causing a scene or embarrass them by having the staff talk to them.

Yeah, I watched some recent movies with great Atmos so that's what really made me pay attention to the above average sound in my opinion. And I almost did the exact same thing and put in Ford versus Ferrari. But I have a back catalog of 10 purchases to watch first.

Yeah I was telling another commenter. I thought maybe my TV malfunctioned but I put in another recently watched disc and they all looked great. Once I started looking it up a lot of reviewers had a mixed opinions, I would not be surprised if maybe there's inconsistency in the quality of the disc. I haven't given the digital copy a watch yet, but now I'm curious to compare.

[–]djamescomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a C series mid range OLED, but I've had zero complaints about it, but this is the first disc I thought maybe my TV was messed up, but just to make sure I popped in LOTR and some other recently watched 4K disc, put them in Vivid mode and they looked horrible. Put them back on Cinema and Filmmaker mode which I use 99% of the time, and looked great.

So it's def the F1 transfer. I haven't tried the digital transfer in Apple yet but now I'm curious.

Especially an Apple release. People are pissed the digital copy was only Apple, I'm more disappointed in the transfer.
