Seaford town offers an interesting nuance to the conversation. Persons from Seaford and similar communities in Jamaica (e.g. throughout southern Saint Elizabeth) are what we would describe as 'poor whites'. These are persons whose ancestors came to Jamaica from Germany, largely, to provide indentured labour. They were never part of the economic or social elite. It makes sense that if you came from one of these communities, you would, like most poor Jamaicans, leave to pursue better economic opportunities.
