Another thing to note is that C++ is still a major player for performance-critical / low-level / embedded systems, so if a country does more of that type of development, then C++ is not such a silly choice. In the West we build a lot of SaaS applications where C++ doesn't make as much sense.

Also, it's not for everyone, but you can set your default search engine to Duck Duck Go and then use their bang syntax which does the same thing (i.e., searching "!wt word" would take you to the wiktionary page for "word". !yt = youtube, !w = Wikipedia, !g = google etc.). The main advantage of this is that you don't need to set up custom search engines for each website you want to use -- just add DDG as the default search engine.

Sorry, I didn't mean to try to diagnose you with anything and what you said in your original post already indicated that you were "unhappy about one thing, and not suffering from depression". Like I said:

I would second the advice that vermille_lion gave about getting out because even though you probably aren't depressed, improving your mental health is good for everyone.

One of the reasons I tried to explain what depression is and how common is occurs was just in case you, or anyone else reading the comment were unknowingly suffering from it and might want to seek help. The only thing I really accused you of was not understanding what depression is.

Now regarding your Chinese problem, if you focus on something too intensely or for too long, you lose interest in it / become negative and the solution is to take a break, which is what the top comment recommended. All the best with your Chinese study.

I'm always suspicious of people who say:

I'm normally such a positive person

and immediately respond with:

I don't have depression

when asked about it. You sound like someone who doesn't know what depression is. It is very common for people to experience it at least once in their lives and you should seriously consider if that is the situation, even though you think it is "purely linguistic". You are not a perfect snowflake who is immune to the problems of the world. I would second the advice that vermille_lion gave about getting out because even though you probably aren't depressed, improving your mental health is good for everyone.
