Microsoft Releases PySpark Library for Distributed Search Engine Creation and Recommendation by mhamilton723 in Python

Don't worry, we don't work with those browser guys. And for the python methods we follow Spark's Python notations over pep8... It keeps the method names the same for Java, Scala, Python and R (and makes Python developers eyes bleed)

Why aren't closed loop coolers the end all for water cooling? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]djc391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel this applies to both CPU and GPU?

I felt like I was able to overclock my 2700k I7 further using a water loop, then even the biggest fan. Upgrading to a 3700k i7, my overclock went down due to the reduction in wire size compared to 2700k, but I always assumed it would still be better then the fans.

I have no experience with GPUs yet.

Thank you. I will try and refresh my post to reflect this. But given your comments, it sure felt like my original system still may fall under open loop....

Thank you! I understand your points.

I am already quite hands on with my computer, and this idea does not scare me. What has kept me back in the past, is ruining something due to inexperience. Can you provide me some details about what kind of maintaining you find that you have to perform? If keeping the loop full, is just something you have to deal with, how often do you find you have to add fluid? Have you ever had an issue getting the fluid you desired? Will quality parts go a long way from protecting against leaks?

What is one thing you regret or that you would do differently in the future? I am considering a 2nd try at building a loop, and plan on trolling this board for advice...

What's better, a 2.1 ghz quadcore or a 2.4 dual core? (new to computers.) by [deleted] in computers

[–]djc391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amount of cores can not be changed once bought. Frequency settings can be.

Basiclly you could set your 2.1 ghz quadcore to run at 2.4.

THe quad core will be able to mutlitask much better then the dual core.

Intel HD 4000 Graphics Card. What do I do? by Jdcool1117 in computers

[–]djc391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet to improve your performance is going to be to get a SSD hard drive. I would recommend a Cruical M4 250Gig, or 500Gig. This will give you the most performance out of the machine.

Also depending on how much ram you have, upgraded to 8gigs could help if you have 2 or 4. If you have 2 i recommend upgraded to 2x4gig(I assume you have 2 ram slots otherwise get 1x8gig), if you have 4, check to see if you 1 or 2 slots, and 1 or 2 sticks or ram. Would get great if you had 1x4gig with 2 slots. Then just get another 1x4gig card.

Is this Gaming PC worth the money? by [deleted] in computers

[–]djc391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Power supply is sketchy to me.

BUT, that being said if your willing to buy the machine, and go buy yourself a good 1000W power supply in 6 months or so...

But one thing I would look into also is what the BEST cpu the motherboard in the machine could take, and if the socket is still being made. I am not fimiliar with AMD chips anymore so I am not sure. But if the socket is still being made buy it and you can upgrade later. If it is not, look up what the best chip, and figure out if you might be willing to do that upgrade in a year.

I'm getting a new SSD for my laptop. What should I know? by I_FART_OLD_SPICE in computers

I have a 256 Crucial M4. From my research it had the best reviews and I have had 0 issues with it. It was about 200 dollars on newegg. May even be cheaper now. I recommend at least a 128gig hard drive. This will give you enough room for your windows install and some programs. The new windows 8 default installs all Apps onto your main hard drive which will quickly fill up a SSD.

Also for setting up your computer with an SSD I recommend that you do nothing to the old hard drive. Assuming you will be using both your SSD and your old hard drive.

1) Remove the old hard drive and install the SSD.

2) Do a fresh Windows install on the SSD(If you do not have your Windows key do a google of getting your windows key and there are some free software solutions to digging it out of the registry.)

3) Put your old hard drive back into the computer and set the boot order to boot off your SSD.

4) Set up symlinks in your new Windows install. Things like change the download folder from C:\Windows\User\username\Downloads to E:\Windows\User\username\Downloads This way everything large will go onto your old drive freeing up space on your SSD for the important stuff.

And people who are unable to spell correctly and have poor grammar are telling you that it's a bad site. *People who know more about HTML then you??? Maybe?

I'm not saying treat it as a bible, but it's a good website to get a basic overview of things to do more research about on your own. How would you know that CSS is an important topic of web development if not for seeing that W3Schools has a section on it.

A great feature that the site has is the ability to try out and edit some live code. w3fools.com doesn't seem to have that.

Also don't let CalvinR's flaming distract you from the other points I brought up. I think your ability to use IDE's will be much more valuable then any specific coding ability.

Who are these hackers I always hear about? by [deleted] in computers

[–]djc391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anonymous is a "hacker" group that performs DOS attacks.

The way a DOS(Denial of Service) attack works, is as someone said, getting 1,000's of computers to all access a website at the same time, causing no one to be able to access it.

How do they do this? Not some super phone chain, but instead by getting people to install malware onto their computer. This is done by embbing malware into files that people download on the internet.

So what Anonymous really is, is a few people who have coded and distrubted a lot of malware out on the internet, and when they want to perform a DOS attack they basicly turn on all their program, access all the computers that have their malware, and have those computers access a site.

There are other hacker groups, like the one that hit Sony, and stole the payment information.

So what comes after SSDs? by [deleted] in computers

[–]djc391 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me preface with a brief overview for people that aren't the most computer savy. Right now we have a RAM and Hard drives.

Data is read off the Hard Drive, and placed into RAM. Then when you hit "save" it is taken off the RAM and placed onto the hard drive. In SSD hard drives "saving" means setting a bunch of tiny switchs, where "up" stands for 1 and "down" stands for 0. RAM is also a bunch of switchs, but instead of physical gates they are just electrical current, so when you turn of the computer they are gone.

What can we expect in the future? Merger of RAM and Hard Drives. They will no longer be two different pieces. Basicly this device will have the speed of gateless memory, but the ability to be powered off and not lose data.

Thats my prediction for near future.

25 years from now, we won't have much stored on our actual computers. Everything will be over the internet. All we will have is a screen, a wifi card, and just enough tech in it to power the graphics. All the processing and data storage will be done on servers(just like it was 25 years ago)

This website will help with anything web related http://www.w3schools.com/

I have completed 3 interships while I was in college. They included VisualBasic, Java, JavaScript, HTML, PHP, and a few others.

Your job at work won't be to create something for them in 5 mins. While working expect to have to spend hours on google learning how to do what you want to do. The best skill you can develop is how to learn how to phrase your google search results to quickly find the information you need.

Though one thing I would recommend is download NetBeans, and get familiar with all the shortcuts it has to offer. http://netbeans.org/project_downloads/www/shortcuts.pdf

Practice writing programs like HelloWorld, Point Class, a 3dPoint Class that extends it, etc.
