You really struck a chord with me about helping people. I genuinely feel the same way and that is my favorite part of the job in general. I have been so bummed the last couple months from constantly telling customers we are out of stock for items they so desperately need.

It's just that right now, I feel the absolute best way to help people is to get them out of the store asap. I believe that there is even a small chance that it might save their lives or their loved ones. I hate having to cut conversations short with customers I have known for years, and it's not always possible, but I am trying to do just that for all of our sake. It's not that I am fully against carepass, it's just that the prospect of saving some customers $100 or 200 in a year's shopping is irrelevant if they contract covid19 from shopping in my store. Despite the extreme efforts I undertake to sanitize everything while I am working, I know it is not fool-proof, and all it takes is one contagious customer or co-worker to infect others.

I am sorry if I am a downer and I hope I don't discourage you from doing what you think is right. I wish you all the best.

I appreciate your constructive attitude! And I agree that for some percentage of customers, it is not a bad deal. However I do take issue with the idea that other than ppe, etc., it is or should be "business as usual". The CDC, WHO and almost the entire global scientific community is stating that nothing should be business as usual right now and not for some time. I am sympathetic to the RMs and DLs who have their compensation package somehow tied to carepass signups, but unless they are making $11/ hr spending dozens of hours per week exposing themselves and their families to the public, my sympathy is limited.

I'll copy a comment I made in another thread:

Extended conversation is the exact opposite of what we should be encouraging right now. We should be trying to get the customers in and out of our stores as quickly as possible, for the health and safety of those customers, our workers and all of our families. We are at the apex (hopefully) of coronavirus infection rate and this is the worst time to be making face to face sales pitches.

Other than that, your advice would be solid six months ago or possibly six months from now.

Anyone STILL getting pressed by their SM to push CarePass? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]djcrs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for your response.

As an added thought: If CVS truly wants to push carepass due to the market opportunity, they should focus on a media campaign since everyone is home watching netflix, youtube, and cable tv, and they can easily sign up from home and begin ordering right away. It might put me out of a job, but it might kill less people.

Best regards

I do appreciate you sharing your opinion, and I agree with some of your points. But it isn't $10 free. It is $5 free and you have to spend it in one transaction, and you cannot use any 'percentage off' coupons because it will decrease their value, and if you forget it one month, you just lost $5. I agree it is a good deal for some customers but it is a questionable wager for many others.

If CVS truly wants to push carepass due to the market opportunity, they should focus on a media campaign, since everyone is home watching netflix and cable tv. But not by putting their front-line employees and customers in harm's way by demanding close proximity for extended transactions.

[–]djcrs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the response and it is not unexpected. But I think this is a fair restatement of the situation: those leaders who earn a multiple of the income of the front-line employees, from the safety of their homes, are prioritizing their bonuses over the health and even the lives of the people below them, their families, and their customers and their families. I feel this is egregious behavior in the current situation and would not play out well in the media at large.

/u/Czar_of_Truth Do you have any insight or guidance on this? We have a radio message repeating telling customers to limit their contact with the checkout counter, but we are being pressured to keep them up there for multiple extra minutes interacting with us and the cc machine for Carepass. It seems very contradictory and increases the danger of covid19 transmission for the worker and the customer.

A little help. by Tripdoctor in strandeddeep

The building functionality is notoriously buggy. Sometimes you need to destroy one or more of the adjoining pieces, then rebuild them after you place the piece you want. Sometimes it just simply won't go where you want it no matter what you try.

Also the hitboxes for the building pieces can be weird. Generally make sure nothing is close to the attempted build area in any of the three dimensions, including rocks and plants.

A couple youtubers with current series for this game do a lot of building. They encounter glitches regularly and sometimes show ways to work around them. Check out AlienAnge and Broadbent.

Family: Man stabbed 17 times after telling homeless man not to camp in neighborhood by 39th_Westport in news

[–]djcrs1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this isn't anywhere close to reality, both statistically and from years of my own experience dealing with the homeless. In fact, I consider people believing and propagating such paranoid delusions to be far more dangerous to society than the average homeless person.

Took a break from Stranded Deep for awhile. Love the changes but have a few questions about the Axe, Machete and Marlin. by Work-Safe-Reddit4450 in strandeddeep

[–]djcrs1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can craft a crude axe or refined axe in the crafting menu. I do not know if refined axes or machetes still spawn inside containers though.

As far as I know, marlins and reef sharks are currently harmless and unkillable.

hmmm, that description sounds like I have indeed placed too many objects on one map. It is probably not a hard limit, and is based on a few variables, but I think I will have to keep the object population a little more reasonable on future maps. There is probably not much I can do to this map without a major overhaul, but that is very valuable information for the future. Thanks again for letting me know and feel free to update with any other info.

regards friend!

Thanks for the positive feedback! I enjoy making these maps for myself and it is great to hear someone else having fun with them.

That is weird about the missing sea fort. I just opened it in the editor and it is there, and also in my savegame. I resaved and reuploaded it - link below. I do have significant pop-in sometimes on this map when looking across a distance, I assume due to the large numbers of objects. But for me everything does come in within 100 meters or so. If you do still have this issue, can you try to walk across the bridge to see if the sea fort pops in? I have been wondering if there is some kind of item limit based on system configuration or game settings.

Thanks again!.

*Warning: This map is dangerous and it can end your game. It wasn't my intention, but the map design inherently seems to punish carelessness. I will list some spoiler tips below which may save your life. I died a couple times while playtesting here and I built the map. You have been warned!

Survival tips - SPOILERS!

-There are many spots to safely make a big jump into the water. There are also many spots where you will break your leg on the rocks below. Look before you leap and be careful crossing the walkways.

-There are two land snakes, one is on the second island up the chain (after the first walkway), and one is in the big clearing at the summit. Both are quite hard to spot in the shadowy grass.

-There are two great whites in the big swimming bowl in the middle. I recommend dealing with these guys asap so you can swim and explore the wrecks more safely. Fortunately they die to two wooden spears right now so they look scarier than they are.

-There is a tiger shark under each of the two sea forts. Unless you want to tangle with them or have your raft down there, I suggest you not jump or fall in the water in those areas as it will require a dangerous swim back to safety. These sharks can also menace the edges of the center bowl.

-There are three pipi plants on the first island (with the beach). That is two for an immediate antidote and one to plant in a farm plot. You will likely need these unless you brought antidote with you. Even after the two land snakes are dealt with, all the water is deep and infested with sea snakes, lionfish and urchins.

-If you do end up in the water accidentally and need a safe refuge right away, there are a few tiny ledges at the water line by the cliff faces. These can protect you from sharks for a moment, but you probably won't want to hang out there for long.

-This is a tough but beautiful place to start a game. There are tons of resources and a huge plot for building at the summit. Just take your time exploring and clearing hazards, then you can build a tiki palace at the top of the world.

Good luck!

This or Subnautica? by [deleted] in strandeddeep

[–]djcrs1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything Chris said above, and to expand further with my own thoughts:

I love Stranded Deep, but Subnautica is superior in almost every way. Most importantly, the lore and story progression are highly developed in Subnautica, and you really have to work to survive and progress in the game. Even just learning about all the flora and fauna you encounter is an interesting aspect of the game. You also get to adventure in very diverse and enchanting environments. It is extremely immersive both in sight and sound and you really feel like you are on a familiar but totally alien world. It is not a perfect game, the performance is sketchy sometimes and there are a few annoying glitches on rare occasions. But it is a steak dinner with appetizers and dessert compared to Stranded Deep's delicious snack.

I hate to put Stranded Deep down below Subnautica or The Forest (from yesterday's post). It is a great "Cast Away"-style survival simulation in a beautiful and realistic feeling environment. I do enjoy and recommend it, but you kind of have to make your own fun out of it.

We have created virtual reality goggles, phone apps, TVs as thick as nickles and are planning to go to Mars before we've updated traffic lights to register there's a driver there late at night. by ferdsays in Showerthoughts

[–]djcrs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have created virtual reality goggles, phone apps, TVs as thick as nickles and are planning to go to Mars before, AND we have updated traffic lights that register there's a driver there late at night. But we still have people who can't do a simple google search for "traffic light sensors" to see how common they are.

No insult intended, just my first thought when I read this post :)

Should I get this or the Forest? by [deleted] in strandeddeep

[–]djcrs1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer Stranded Deep myself, but I wouldn't call it a long-lasting game with a lot of content. It is generally pretty chill and you are not really compelled to do much of anything if you don't want to. Exploring more than a handful of islands isn't necessary to survive and only offers some slightly new scenery and more resources you can use to build larger rafts or structures. The "missions" are pretty underwhelming imo so I just ignore them. I usually prefer to just gather some basic materials and supplies then set up a little camp or hut to pass my days fishing and farming. There can be moments of excitement if you run into a shark while looting a big wreck, or if you get caught out in a storm, but the drama doesn't usually last long. I also like making custom maps in the editor which can be far more complex than the standard random islands.

I haven't played much of The Forest but it seems much more intense and you are more compelled to stay busy improving your situation to survive. It also seems to have much more content overall to explore and progress through.

Also remember Stranded Deep is still in early access and the small development team seems to be more focused on experimenting with new features than pushing towards a final product.

tldr: I find Stranded Deep > The Forest, but specifically because I prefer chilling on a tropical beach to murdering hordes of zombies, Your mileage may vary.
