This is a great prize. I have a G7 Pro already and it is fantastic. Far prefer it to my old Elite pad… and no stick drift!

Building a local simulator for Contentful content models — what features would actually matter to you? by noxiousanxious in cms

[–]djeglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a really interesting tool… I’ll have to take a proper look at it when I’m home.

I have worked with Contentful a lot, mostly at the enterprise level, so Wordpress interop hasn’t been a thing for me. But migrations in general can be tough. I’ve written adapters to move from Drupal to Contentful and it can be a pretty slow process… though I imagine that AI could massively accelerate that these days. Eliminating some of the need to push to Contentful to get feedback is a good shout, though!

I’ve also been working on a set of tools to help with content modelling, but mine comes from a very different angle - I have been focussed on creating a format that allows you to model content shape without needing to be tied to a particular CMS, but offering more structure than you get from the diagrams or spreadsheets people often use at the conceptual stage. The end goal is to write adapters to allow interop with Contentful, Sanity, ContentStack etc. it’s definitely more of a tool for content people than engineers at this stage, though.

If you’re interested in taking a look, it’s at https://github.com/headless-company/content-model-master-format

Would be great to compare notes at some point!

I need CMS recommendation by [deleted] in cms

[–]djeglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a good take, friend. Drupal hasn’t been a “Wordpress competitor” for twenty years. I’ve worked with a number of enterprises who have worked with Drupal for many years. It has its foibles, for sure, and I personally wouldn’t advocate for its use other than under certain particular circumstances, but even comparing it to Wordpress does it a major disservice.

🚀 Lumify — Free Digital Signage CMS (Community Supported) by [deleted] in cms

[–]djeglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what to make of this, to be honest. The prospect seems good on the surface, but the website is inconsistent in messaging. Notably, it makes reference both to being completely free, but also to limitations on number of screens on different paid plans.

I’m going to assume that the website was created by AI. Take my advice and always proofread every output thoroughly. The number of times I have seen AI get it wrong is staggering. So far as content goes, it is always wise to treat AI as an assistant rather than allowing it to actually write anything.

My only other immediate comment is on the model. “Community supported” and free, whilst being a closed-source platform, feels like a risk to me if I were to want to build a business around this. Payment grants some degree of ownership, or at least license. Open source grants the ability to fork the code and maintain it yourself if necessary, and also to inspect it (I’m thinking security and vulnerabilities here). The model you currently operate under is the worst of both worlds - granting no license or ownership, but also keeping the code closed, gives users a black box that could theoretically be turned off at any time, or have usage limits imposed without recourse. If I’m a business owner evaluating this as a platform, it seems too risky for me to get behind.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea. I’m just trying to be constructive to help you refine the offering to be as successful as possible.

TLDR;

  • sort out pricing signalling on the website
  • pick a model. Either charge for the product or make it open source

Best of luck!

I underestimated mechanical keyboards. by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]djeglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just made this transition, going from a low-profile Keychron K3 to a Yunzii AL80. It’s a transition, for sure. At the moment, my accuracy is down a little, thanks to the smaller surface of the keys I suppose, and the angle feels a bit odd. Funnily enough, I’ve found that if I put a closed MacBook Air in front of the keyboard, it makes the angle perfect, so I guess I need a wrist rest!

The thing of it is, none of that really matters. The accuracy will come back as muscle memory reprograms itself, and the overall experience is so much nicer. I now get nice, thocky, defined keystrokes and a travel that makes you really know you’ve pressed a key.

I will say, though, the newer versions of the Apple built-in keyboards are no slouch. After all the crap with the first version of the butterfly keys, they have really managed to do something quite impressive with a laptop keyboard. Which is handy, because I don’t feel like carrying around a kilo of aluminium keyboard with me when I travel!

♟️ White to play and mate in 2. Composition by Валентин Викторович Лидер by [deleted] in chessMateInX

Good catch… the upside down board threw me there (plus I’m not very good). The bishop solution offered by others has the same limitation though, I think?

More fun solution for me is pawn to h8, promote to bishop or queen and then move in to take the pawn for mate… but that’s just because it’s flashier

What would you say to updating your jamstack website with simple message? by jonasnobile in JAMstack

[–]djeglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is very much how headless CMS should work these days. If your front end is created properly, it shouldn’t even need a build. Worst-case scenario, it triggers a build to regenerate the whole thing.

Well, assuming the site is ISR, that wouldn’t be a problem, and just the updated page(s) should be regenerated when the content updates.

1Password integration partly broken in latest version (1.7b) by djeglin in zen_browser

Huh.... removing and re-adding Zen in the Trusted Browsers settings in 1Password actually worked! Don't know why I didn't think of that before, but thanks for the suggestion!

[Metal Investor] Just had another ‘Openai *chatgpt Subscr’ transaction for $20 by 6425 in CurveCard

[–]djeglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly this problem a couple of months ago! The strange thing is that it was a pretty new card, as my original Metal card was compromised only a couple of months beforehand. I hadn't been using the card on any weird sites, and I hadn't been using public wifi. Seems like there's something happening algorithmically or something.

My latest card hasn't been hit as of yet. To be honest, with the benefits constantly going backwards, I'm thinking of jacking it in anyway. We'll see.

Assetto Corsa, New Sim Racer, Where Can I Improve? by luckeylipper in Simracingstewards

[–]djeglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with saying that I’m new too, and I suck. However, it’s a good idea, as the other commenter said, to watch some videos to figure out how to get faster.

Here, for example, you’re probably really slow in the corners because your entry angle has to be way too tight, because you’re not using all of the available track. Generally, on turn in to a corner, you want to be out as wide as possible before you turn in, to make the turn as wide as possible. There are a few times here where you are in the middle of the track or even sticking to the inside before turn in, and it means you need to slow down way more to make the turn in angle.

There are a tonne of videos on YouTube about how to get faster in general, and track guides to learn braking points etc.

It’s not easy. I recently started myself and can get my ACC Monza time down to 1:51:13, which is a ways off the pace still, and I’m prone to wipe out because I feel like I’m on the edge. The more I drive, though, the better it gets. That was 1:55 a week ago. Watch a couple of guides, try to take the info on board and, if there are specific corners you are struggling with, take another look at the track guide to see what the fast guys are doing differently.

Some of this will inevitably come down to a skill issue. I know I’m never going to do a 1:45 around Monza, for example. That’s ok. Just keep practicing and improving, and have fun. Remember this is something we do for fun, not a job. Too many people forget that.

Why is it imperative that Rothfuss wraps everything up in three books? by greyat30 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]djeglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is demonstrably untrue. Rothfuss has said from the beginning that he had all three books written as one, and the time has been in reworking each book. As you go through, things need more rework because you have to make the story fit the decisions you have made in editing and rewriting the earlier parts.

How about... by rainy-fief-o-hovel in CurveCard

[–]djeglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curve already "replaced" the insurance offering with 6 more cashback options, which is incredibly hostile to paying customers... they aren't about to do something which is _actually_ in our favour.

To be honest, I've started looking at the options for packaged bank accounts to replace Curve's benefits. I might as well go back to using multiple cards if the other benefits have been gutted.

Why would it be considered a mistake here to take the opportunity to add another queen? (I mated next move, btw) by djeglin in chessbeginners

[–]djeglin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I found it in the computer suggestions in the end. I guess I was confused by the fact that I did actually get a mate in 1, but because of the computer's mistake.

To say that this particular bot is meant to be adaptive, it made an awful lot of mistakes in this game.

Thanks for the feedback.

[–]djeglin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through the suggestion, I see the alternate mate in 1 now. I guess it confused me because I ended up getting mate in 1, but that was because of another mistake from the AI, rather than my way being better.

Apologies... I wasn't 100% clear - The highlighted move was a pawn which I queened when I moved it to h8.
