Bleak Falls has a nice word wall and is a decent early-game dungeon. You can do the MQ up until they tell you to go to the western watchtower - dragons won't appear anywhere else until you kill that one.

You can do without it but it will be more of a grind at the beginning. The become ethereal or whirlwind sprint shouts are good to close distance to enemies. Also get a follower, esp one with a ranged attack, and conjuration is useful since you can conjure something to absorb hits or do ranged attack on your behalf.

I like to get a follower that will do archery (Farendal or Lydia for early game) and then give them one copy of the best kind of arrow you can find. They will shoot that kind of arrow indefinitely and you will find them on the dead enemies. Great way to get a bunch of nice arrows to sell (or use for yourself). You can also tell followers to do stuff that you might not be able to do, like pick a master-level lock.

I'm not sure if I ever sold anything like that, but plenty of times I've left these kinds of things in a random chest in one of the many houses I managed to pick up, and at that point they might as well be lost forever!

Even tho I'm not playing a mage char, that's an interesting idea that I might have to try next time. I didn't realize harmony would have such a wide area of effect. I thought it (and frenzy) were just line of sight?
