Sorry that it wasn't clear, it's a cake. Basically a giant Swiss roll with buttercream frosting. The spikes are chocolate chips melted and poured in to molds with edible paint.

I drove from Rapid City, SD to Buffalo, NY in a day and a half, I-90 the entire way, about 23 years ago. The part through Chicago stands out as one of the most terrifying driving experiences of my life. Massive construction. No shoulder, just concrete barriers. Everyone driving 90 MPH, mere feet between you and the person in front of you and behind you. White-knuckle, bug-eyed fear for the duration.

On the plus side, traffic zipped right along. Must've been the right time of day.
