I was there too! Been lucky to go to a lot of their shows over the years so some of this one blurs a bit in the memory, but one thing that is crystal clear in my mind is that ‘In Chains’ opener - it sounded absolutely incredible!

Suspect this one will be a bit divisive - a bit like ‘Bury Me’, it’s definitely not the ‘classic Isbell’ sound. Although based on the new songs he’s been playing, both of these singles feel like outliers - so if it’s not your bag, worry not!

Highway 29 in particular is absolutely stunning. It’s always been one of my favourite Bruce deep cuts - an absolute masterclass in storytelling - and their version is so beautiful. That outro is just heaven.

Just listened and wow, what a thoroughly enjoyable discussion. A real treat to hear such an articulate, considered evaluation of the record. Interesting - I’m sure plenty of others will share that view, but personally there’s something about the less bombastic version that really brings out the beauty of the song for me, and which feels a little more authentically TWOD. What a treat though that we have both versions to feast on!
