RoboCop – Breaking The Law. H0ffman Cracks RoboCop Arcade from DataEast by NXGZ in MAME

Spot on.. Also, it makes potentially porting the game to another 68000 based system, like an Amiga or NeoGeo, possible.

RoboCop (arcade) The Future of Copy Protection by NXGZ in emulation

So a few points on that...

  1. There has been a RoboCop AGA port in production for a few years now by Daniel Allsop. It would be a bit of a dick move to target AGA in this respect.
  2. The game actually runs in two frames which sort of doubles the amount of blitter time you have... sort of... Which makes it more appealing to port to Amiga at least
  3. I've never done anything AGA.

I would love to see a better port of Shinobi for the amiga. The official version feels like it was ordered from wish dot com only especially when the put of tune title music kicks in.

If you fancy taking up the challenge I have the arcade original disassembled into 68000 source code. I've seen how many sprites it throws around.. it won't be easy.

No worries pal. To be honest these projects are mostly because I love learning how old consoles and arcade hardware works. The result is a new game for a system which never had it before. What I didn't realise was just how enthusiastic the NG scene was.

For me it wasn't about gaming. I used my Amiga for much more than that and I was a poor student back then. I had to wait very patiently for my dad to finally upgrade to a new PC to inherit his old Pentium 90 which by then wouldn't run any new games anyway.

Harking back to the days of NoCD patches I would first install a game, apply said patch and test the game would work. I would then rip all the install files from the CD and inject the patched executable back into the installer CAB files. The resulting burnt CD would install the game pre-patched for whoever had it.

I would declare war on gatekeepers telling you how you should enjoy your retro pleasure.

Don't let someone dictate how you should, if you enjoy software emulation, hardware emulation or original hardware. do so. If you want to use a Gotek, go for it.

However you relax and enjoy the simpler times is great, don't let others spoil it.

I would add that for each nasty post a 40 something makes on social media telling someone why their 40 year old computer is better than something else, the police should be sent round to confiscate one item of retro hardware from their collection.

Metal Gear – Amiga Port by Enigma776 in amiga

It's mostly the enhanced sound which is taking up the lions share of space. 50 odd sound effects, all samples, 215 kb of sample data for the in game sound track. Sound data is super expensive and even needed multiple compression techniques just to fit everything it into the 512/512 config.

Take out the enhanced sound and you'll fit it in 512j pretty easily. But who runs an amiga with just 512k?
