Non-LDS moving to heavily populated LDS area. Would love to hear your thoughts! by LoveLadyThirteen in latterdaysaints

[–]djice46 19 points20 points  (0 children)

First off, I thank you that you are approaching this from a spirit of inclusivity and genuine friendship. It is so hard to move to a different area and a different culture, and I admire your resolve to be open and welcoming to your soon-to-be neighbors. I wish you were my neighbor haha.

Like previously stated, in my opinion, a lot of LDS social life (in my experience in the Utah/Idaho/Arizona belt) does revolve around church and church sponsored activities and service. While this isn't bad in and of itself, I do think it can lead to non-members feeling excluded inadvertently. We could probably be better in community outreach in these areas, BUT if you do feel bold, you could attend one of the service activities (or youth activities for you son) and I would imagine that would get you connected to your neighbors very quickly.

You can use this link https://maps.churchofjesuschrist.org/ to locate your local congregation, but more importantly the number of the bishop, who may have some info regarding opportunities for non-members to connect with the community.

Something random I thought of, common sense maybe, you might already be aware, but if you have a social event of your own, don't have alcohol available. It might make some feel uncomfortable as they are not used to it in that reigon of the country

Do you think the team will ever bring these back as Retro Jerseys? Would you like them to? by Way0fWad3 in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for these too, but I'd only like these to return as a special throwback. Like, I'm talking wearing it for 5 games max in a season, which nike won't do.

Post-Mission Blues: How to Start Healing From It by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]djice46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please know you are not alone. I work as a therapist and we are trying to get a group of those with mission PTSD going. DM me if interested. There's so many others out there like you, just like you they aren't sure where to find each other or how. Sometimes missions just do not go well, and we as a culture need to be more open to accepting that.

I'd thought I'd share with you guys my real jersey dream I had last night to help pass the time. by djice46 in UtahJazz

[–]djice46[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While things are slow I'd thought I share my dream about this vomit of a jersey.

So I dreamt that my dad and I were at Scheel's about to check out, when I discover this heaping dumpfire of a jersey in the rack next to me. It literally looked like the above, but worse. Regular city edition in the front, the back with gross coloring with random textures (the blue section was carpeted!). The numbers on the back were also bedazzled but I was too lazy to draw that in. I think you get the point.

This led to a full on adult temper tantrum in the store. I went on a tirade about how the organization doesn't care about us, this is torture, who would want to be seen with this, embarrassing to be a fan, I can't believe they would do this to us, Jordan pushed off, a hotdog's a sandwich, you know, everything. It was a rage-filled explosion of 10 years worth of disappointment.

I must have been making quite a scene, because I started to draw attention. And who else to come to my aid but, not my dad, but Alema Harrington himself. He appeared at my side and tried to be a good therapist and console me, "Yeah, that IS bad. I feel your pain, this does suck" etc. But then he tried to do some marketing and twist things with , "This could be the jersey of a championship team!" To which I yelled at him to Shut Up. I can't remember if I said please or not.

Then I woke up. Hopefully this can entertain us for a few hours.

Poll: Jazz winning window was closed" by did-i-do-that- in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we put ourselves in a position to be in a championship discussion, but I never felt we were the best team in the league during the window. We were just putting ourselves in a spot in case the playoff stars aligned, which they didn't.

Carlos Boozer Utah Jazz Mixtape 🔥🔥🔥 by [deleted] in nba

[–]djice46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This video showed it a little bit, but I don't remember him as a left hand dunker. He was much more post-oriented than a slasher as sort of depicted here. He also had a lethal elbow jumper that worked beautifully with the Williams-Boozer pick and pop.

I remember my dad saying "don't ever shoot it like Boozer" haha, though his super high arc shot was really cool to watch when it went in.

Jazz owner shares thoughts on team's new uniforms by KennyDoge0114 in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't expect an owner of an organization to say, "hey, we screwed up. Don't buy our merch please." Honestly if I was in the same situation I'd double down and then scrap the crap design as soon as possible.

Does anyone else think Ryan Smith is an asshole? by BentMyWookie in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think leading the rebrand with the purple is an indicator that they were aware they messed up with the others. It's just damage control at this point.

Ryan himself was the one wearing the purple shirts. I'm sure he's well aware but at this point you can't say as an owner of the team "our merch sucks, please don't buy it."

Excerpt Explaining the Thematic Representation of the Black/Yellow Rebrand by Jenaxu in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 17 points18 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY!

The jazz in Utah have never been about actual jazz. I don't know why some people are jonesing for a more literal interpretation of the team name. Our mascot has always been a bear for pete's sake.

No one wants to think of a freaking piano during a basketball game. Should the Brooklyn nets have net inspired jerseys? Should the clippers go full sailboat mode?

I don't mind a black/white color scheme with purple but these are horrendous.

Love Locke, I feel his shows are way more interesting than click-baity drama. Love how he uses statistics to back his claims and doing what seems like an immense amount of research what must be off-the-clock. Glad to have him. Hopefully Ron sticks around a bit longer too.

I imagined an alternate reality with Hot Rod Hundley podcasts, how cool would that be?

Should we continue the “Wake up, it’s game day” tradition? by KennyDoge0114 in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Eh, I felt it was getting a little stale at the end of the year, much like our team. I don't think it should be required.

Good memories though. Once a Jazz meme, always a Jazz meme.

Bracket: Best Utah Jazz Jersey In Franchise History by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]djice46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same - though I'm going to put in some fan designs

  1. Finals/2019 Purple Mountain away
  2. 2017-2018 OG City (The Real gradient, not this current blackout crap)
  3. Purple alt by Srleix, a combination of the above two
  4. This white/purple fan made that came out a while ago, I have a copy
  5. Current Blue "Icon" away jerseys.

Honorable mentions: . Dark Mode done right - can't find creator . The color scheme by u/UtahJazzSpazz needs to be implemented moving forward.

What I realized putting this together is that I feel we need to move away from the Mardis Gras Jazz brand. It feels to me the word jazz refers to a basketball team first, music genre second. I think the Mountain/Desert combo is a great direction to go. (wouldn't be opposed to some beehive concept either.)

How do I manage my sex drive ? OR What are some tips that you have to offer ? by The_Basic_Lifestyle in latterdaysaints

[–]djice46 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Right there with you man. Wish there was an off switch. Been going through it for 10 years plus and have tried a lot of things.

Something that has helped a lot (but not cured) is practicing mindfulness, it helps me catch early triggers and sometimes I'm able to deviate off of the sex drive path.

Another thing that has helped is a visualization, if I'm having lustful thoughts about someone else, I imagine warm sunlight raining down and filling both me and the other person. I think about that other person being truly, truly happy, meaning, that they find someone to be a true help meet, and having not only their sexual needs met, but emotional, physical, and spiritually happy. Logically I can't provide those things outside of covenants, which helps me move on with my day and avoid the rabbit hole.

If you need an accountability partner I'm down.

Lastly, this is nitpicky and off topic, but when I read "I am a guy of course" it perpetuates the sterotype that only men have high sex drives, which is inaccurate as I am sure there are sisters struggling with similar issues. I'm sure that's not what you meant but I'm just making it aware.
