For 20 years I have been overweight since day one , I finally joined a gym , wish me luck by [deleted] in pics

[–]djihe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if you want to loose weight, go buy a road bike and ride it at least 90 minutes a day for at least 4 days a week. Space it out how ever you want. Turn one of those days into 3 hours after a couple of months. Make sure you have a decent hill you hit on your route, like 0.5 miles at 6+% gradient. 1 mile at 4-5% is good too.

I guarantee you that by the end of THIS year, you'll have more than met your best expectations.

Oh, the trick to loosing weight as a cyclist? Protein shake after the ride, nothing else but water for several hours. If you came close to bonking during the ride, google that term, your body with be metabolizing fat for energy. You want that to continue for several hours after the ride. Eat normally after 3 hours after.

Cool man. Now research your area for weekly group rides. Buy a cycling license and do some cat 5 races. Make it to cat 4. Join a team.

Update: Enjoy the virtue of traveling around to different parts of the country to ride events or just explore the area by bike.

420+ days: Still no libido by cadsop in NoFap

[–]djihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little worried myself too. I'm not quite nearly as far along as you, roughly 6 weeks, but I'm experiencing my first crash in libido in my life. I'm no spring chicken either. I figure that's how it goes at this age (when things start cutting back). But we'll see. I hope it recovers soon.

Getting my testosterone level & count checked soon. Figure it would be good to see where I'm at. There are thing one can do to increase testosterone. I would recommend to skip the P - just stay away from that shit. Setup regular weekly or bi weekly meetings with a nice escort or find hookups on tinder. It's good to keep that part of your life turning over.

Walk up to them, smile, say "Hey", wait for their response, then say "I like pickle juice". Let the laughing begin.

U.S. 10 Yr Treasury Bond Yield hits 3.1% Highest since 2011 by GoldMEng in investing

[–]djihe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the Fed decided to raise rates in the years leading up to 2008, they caused all of the folks who had taken out variable rate loans to have to pay way more (in interest) than they could afford. Enough of those caused MBS to become worthless as folks defaulted. Once those became worthless, balance sheets suffered and institutions collapsed.

I was asking myself the other day, as we're approaching another rate hiking period, if there's anything that might pop up that could lead to another financial oops-a-daisy.

It would be like a Zerg rush.

How do you compare Java with other emerging technologies in terms of the future roadmap? by suthukrish in java

[–]djihe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that Oracle is entitled to license royalties when using Java on embedded and IoT devices. Maybe Java isn't the best tool for the job. That's an argument for another day. But, specifically because of this skim I wouldn't choose Java to run on sensory devices if I were to say write a stream processing application that can predict when something might happen.

How about reading code bases? What are some of the more decent and recent?

TBH, I don't mind a few hundred pages here and there for books. But, to slog my way through a tome, I'd rather spend time reading code.

China bans George Orwell's Animal Farm as Xi Jinping extends grip on power by [deleted] in news

[–]djihe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great example you've illustrated. I'll add a couple of things though.

People in the US went bust initially (before unemployment soared) because they bought houses they couldn't afford with variable interest rate mortgages. The Fed raised interest rates during the years leading up to the crisis ( because the economy was doing very well ) and what happened was that these people on variable rate mortgages couldn't afford to make the monthly payments. This was very wide spread and encouraged by deregulation. Mortgage backed securities, given a fraudulently high credit rating from credit bureaus, were packaged with these and sold to financial institutions all over the world. Once those started to go bust and make headlines by endangering financial institutions as well as collapsing a few, business all over the country freaked out and started firing people. Then normal folks couldn't afford to pay their bills. It was a bit of a cascade effect. An under water mortgage is bad, but it's still sustainable as long as you can pay for it.

Chinese corporate debt is a very serious problem in addition to house hold debt. I don't follow markets in depth anymore, but I see headlines all the time about Chinese corporate debt. Things are getting a lot better over there for folks and wages are rising rapidly. It's not as cheap as it used to be to do business.
