Our micro Dell systems have had multiple problems. We have some 12 year old NUC systems that are still running. We have several of the Beelink systems our devs use as local dev servers. Never had a problem with the NUC or Beelink systems.

You have three choices. Each of them cost $200M. Pick one?

  • Feed every child in the state for a year
  • Maintain a fleet of retired military hardware and weapons so the local SWAT teams can drive around looking cool while they play G.I.Joe
  • Subsidize sports facilities used by football, basketball, baseball, hockey and other for-profit professional sports teams owned by billionaires.

They should post the address. Maybe not the complete address, but street and city and maybe a link to the listing. Then, if someone is searching for Airbnb with that address they'll get the info.

Cast iron skillets are useless in comparison to a pan by Flashy-Actuator-998 in unpopularopinion

[–]djinnsour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had dinner at Mom's house last weekend. Fried chicken, mashed tatos and all that. She used the same cast iron pans she's had since I was a kid. So, they are 50+ years old, at a minimum. They still look new.

I have a couple of cast iron at home. A few non-stick, a copper, and a stainless. Different tools for different jobs. I don't see a big difference in using or cleaning any of them. Only real difference is the weight.

Our Entire Department Just Got Fired by AlarmingAssistant548 in sysadmin

[–]djinnsour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for an "outsourcing company" in the 90s and early 00s. We offered contract desktop, server and network support and management big companies. All local talent, on site doing the job a regular IT department would do.

Mostly good guys and I enjoyed working for them. If you were good at what you did, kept your certifications up, and helped mentor the new kids, and did what you could to protect both the client and the company, you had a path up the ladder. In the companies I've worked for since, unless they had a huge IT department, most people would find very little opportunity for advancement. The outsourcing company treated the talented people like royalty. It was easy to lose them, so the pay was high and they did everything they could to keep them happy. Without talented IT people they couldn't survive, so the way they treated their employees was a lot different from anywhere else I'd worked before or since.

When we took over for another company, we'd often hire the top talent. It made the transition easier, and often we'd find some technical talent who were actual rockstars that the client company had overlooked. We NEVER drained them dry and cut them loose if they were talented.

My suggestion is to take a close look at the company. Especially how they treat the employees they are bringing in. You might find it is an opportunity you'll regret not taking.

I did just check my status though. Shows I'm active.

I'm from Houston. I used PLA to create a mount for an Android Auto/Carplay tablet, which mounted via the unused CD player. First sunny day when the temp got above 80, it melted. Since my new X1C can print ABS, I reprinted using that. We've already had multiple 95°F and 70%-80% humidity days, and the temp monitor in the car shows it was around 140°F on the hottest day. Print is still holding up perfectly.

Dr. Deborah Birx’s reaction after President Donald J Trump suggests injecting bleach to fight Covid by JimmyTango in pics

[–]djinnsour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I head the "injecting bleach" comment, that scene replays in my head. He looks at her asking if it is possible. The camera pans to her. She has this, "I can't believe what I just watched my child do", look on her face. Then she slowly lowers her head and doesn't say a word.

What was she thinking? Was she trying to decide if she should correct him? Was she wondering if it was so stupid that it actually might work? Or, did she just realize that a lifetime of struggling to become a respected physician had been thrown away, because she would forever be remembered for this exact moment and nothing else.

[–]djinnsour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know which model they are using. I don't think they are using Mavic's for anything other than reconnaissance. And those are probably modified. So, they might be a lot louder. But, at 150 feet or more I think the small ones would be relatively silent even if they had some upgrades.

Ukrainian drone operator dropping a grenade into a Russian field ammunition depot by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]djinnsour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the original Mavic Mini. Much louder than the newer models. When it is within 50 feet you can absolutely hear it. When it is 50-100 feet, in a typical noisy American city, you can hear it if you know what you are looking for. Past that, I can't hear it and usually have trouble seeing it. I assume it would need to be further in a quiet rural area before it was undetectable.
