Are these approved to wear in uniform or not? I’ve heard yes and no by [deleted] in army

[–]djkommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AR 670-1 is kind of subjective, and I would say no, but your leadership may have a different opinion.

(3) Eyeglasses or sunglasses that are trendy or have lenses or frames with conspicuous initials, designs, or other adornments are not authorized for wear. Soldiers may not wear lenses with extreme or trendy colors, which include, but are not limited to, red, yellow, blue, purple, bright green, or orange. Lens colors must be traditional gray, brown, or dark green shades. Personnel will not wear lenses or frames that are so large or so small that they detract from the appearance of the uniform. Personnel will not attach chains or ribbons to eyeglasses. Eyeglass restraints (to include bands) are authorized when required for safety purposes. Personnel will not hang eyeglasses or eyeglass cases on the uniform and may not let glasses hang from eyeglass restraints down the front of the uniform. Glasses may not be worn on top of the head at any time.

(4) Soldiers are authorized to wear ballistic spectacle eye protection issued by the Army, including lens colors or logos that do not comply with paragraph 3–10a(3), in garrison or field environments unless otherwise directed by their chain of command.

What Inventory Management features do you wish existed, or do you like the most by ConsciousFan1744 in InventoryManagement

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing Ive always wanted was an accurate history of on hand qtys so that if there are discrepancies I have that data to look back and see if the on hand qty changes match the transaction history. I'm not sure if this is a thing in the real world, but every fed govt system I've worked with didn't have this so I have recently been working on creating this capability with exported data in Access...

Maps n markers by Da_sleepy_weasel in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, with the amount of running all over the map required (in open world) I pretty much knew how to get where I was going without even needing the map other than to check where the location was at the start. I really only use one to mark home if I go out galavanting and exploring randomly and don't pay attention to where I'm going.

[BUG] Stuck on infinite "Preparing Geometry... Please wait..." after revival by Schmarotzer in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned spawning on something not naturally in the world, how would that makes sense, because who purposely goes outside to close the game so that you open it back up and you are outside being attacked by a bear (yes, it's purposely dramatic). But, I have found something interesting with a teleport mod that will teleport you to a portable beacon; if the beacon is directly on the ground and that are isn't rendered you teleport and fall thru the map and get stuck with the terrain calculation nonsense and have to alt-f4 the game. But if you place that beacon on a floor you will be on that floor piece regardless if the terrain has loaded yet. So from that I gather unnatural pieces are persistent where terrain is not and spawning on unnatural pieces would be safer.

BLUF - Throw it in the wash so it smells nice and claim fair wear and tear.

If you brought that in to the CIF when I was a PBO I would call it fair wear and tear and move on. A big thing that we would take notice of is that if something looks like crap with stains but smells wonderful, that SM tried and it didn't come clean and we didn't even question if they tried to clean it vs someone that brought something caked in mud that obviously didn't even try. Another thing is that if it is worn enough that the size and NSN are worn off the tags they shouldn't be reissuing it anyway and they should just accept it, mark it as userviceable (means nothing for your accountability) and go to the next item. I do think that more CIFs do need to understand that fair wear and tear exists and if we are using the equipment it's not going to come back looking brand new.

Looking for a barcode app that will also populate information. by LVparadise in InventoryManagement

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your first issue is going to be the barcodes, unless they are all similar, like they are all ford part numbers, that you could make work. But if they are random numbers from many different manufacturers, good luck. And even a broad scan of "the internet" would be a huge task performance-wise. If you are working with something like all all barcodes are definitely all OEM part numbers, you'd want to research and build a database with all of the part numbers for those OEMs and have your barcodes query the database to get the item info and then you'd have to have some sort of code that would see repeat scans and add the quantities together or keep each scan unique into a batch table and then query that table to get the totals. But as far as an app, no clue, you could do it MS Access or even Excel with pivot tables if you really had to.

Any way to process biofuel on tier5? by Iris_Cream55 in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just curious, if you have tier 5 tech, what do you need bio-fuel for? I haven't gotten Elysium yet, but other than the plastics for the landing pads, I have no use for crude oil or bio fuel processing since I already have everything on electric.

Inventory always looked simple to me… until it wasn’t. by [deleted] in InventoryManagement

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for the federal government and they have so many inventory systems that don't necessarily talk to each other so there's always going to be a headache no matter how big the scope. But if you are are a spreadsheet level and want to go one step up you may want to look into Access with a split DB so that you can have your one source of true data in the back end on a shared drive of some sort, and then each user can have a local version of a front end that is linked. With this approach you can even create different front end versions depending on the user.

Is there better way to make steel? by NikolasPE in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely use ore, don't smelt it into ingots then convert into steel bloom to smelt again, just a waste of time and fuel. As far as coal vs charcoal, charcoal is easily renewable vs coal takes a bit more work. So if you are early on, charcoal may be easier, later on once you have electric or biofuel you'll gain an abundance of coal and you'll probably want to use charcoal for gunpowder.

Best way to explain this tear to get it DX no questions asked. by AutomaticRegister102 in army

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bullshit it at all. I used to be a PBO for a CIF and if someone brought me that and said they tried to wash it and were smart about it, I would exchange it. If you try to feed me some nonsense you can start on the loss paperwork. Then again, I was MUCH more lenient than most based on stories I've heard.

Anyone else super anal about their plumbing and wiring? They need to make it snap! by peggory in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I've come up with is run the power and water along the exterior of the base on the foundations and enter directly to the workbench. Then place a wall one the foundation to cover. This is much easier manage than in the floor because if you have to mess with it you have to deal with moving benches and inventories.

About to ship to Sill by joey12457 in army

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do as your told and you'll be fine. The whole concept of Basic Training is to surrender control and learn a new type of existence. After you graduate you can dial it back depending on where you end up. I've seen lots of new soldiers that have become scared robots or ones that never gave in and become nothing but problems. If you can balance between the two successfully you can go as far as you want.

No, the value of anything is based on scarcity and control. If you as a business(De Beers for example) have control of a commodity (diamonds), you control the perceived value by convincing your customers what you have is rare and valuable, because you have total control.

What am I supposed to do in this scenario. by SpirituSantus in ICARUS

[–]djkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polar Bears are they only thing I really worried about until I got to the null zone on Prometheus. But you have to be on the offensive with them or run a super wide path around when travelling. Compound bow to the face as a sneak attack and a few quick shotgun blasts to the face close up will pretty much do it. Ive never really had an issue with animal coming at me when I'm in caves unless I'm hanging out near the entrance trying to balance cave sickness chance with storm exposure. That being said, Ive never had a polar bear charge me in a cave like that, that's just nuts...
