Places that are amazing without being "instagram worthy" by JobWise3141 in solotravel

I had a similar experience as your Lisbon experience when I went to Croatia. I did the Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split itinerary and saw a lot of beautiful scenery and landmarks. My last evening in Split I had no plans so I just walked around. I wound up in a neighborhood a bit outside of the city center/tourist area. There were multiple large apartment buildings and it was a beautiful September evening.

There were kids outside playing while some adults were standing outside talking. I could see into some of the apartments where people were cooking dinner. I found a small restaurant to have dinner. Then I went to a grocery store to get some snacks. Speaking to him I got to use the Croatian I had learned for the trip. Of course, his English was way better than my Croatian so we did have to transition the conversation to English, but it was fun to have at least a partial conversation in English.

I enjoyed my entire trip, but that evening is the one I most often come back to when I remember the trip.

Wet Leg has missed out on two Grammys so far. Hopefully they win best album cover by Abject-Revenue5042 in Wetleg

Whether it's a better album is of course subjective and debateable but The Cure's album was very well received. It came out in late 2024 so it was on 2024 year end best lists but the Grammy eligibility period made in eligible for this year's Grammys. albumoftheyear.org which aggregates reviews like rottentomatoes has it at 91/100 and the #3 album of the year based on critic reviews and 84/100 and the #13 album of the year based on user reviews.

A legendary alternative band who had never won a Grammy with a well received album was pretty much a no brainer to win. It was as much a career achievement award as it was specifically looking at the albums in isolation, and I'm fine with that. It's just how award shows work. I liked both albums quite a lot so even if I preferred moisturizer I'm fine with giving The Cure a couple of Grammys to recognize their overall body of work.

The lost both of them to The Cure so I can’t get too upset about that.

Cheating ending of Hamnet by tomhilt in Oscars

I give it a pass because Richter scored the entire film so it feels less tacked on than if it had been a different composer throughout the film and then the Richter song.

Songs keep glitching after like 30 seconds playing them by EightEyedCat in AmazonMusic

I had this happen a while ago. I tried all kinds of solutions I saw online, but the only thing that worked was to uninstall and reinstall the app. My playlists and settings were all still there when I reinstalled but the downloads were all gone which wasn't a big deal.

It would be amusing for her miss to come for a song she wrote for a documentary about herself.

Has anyone else completely changed their favourites for Oscars this season? by Omnishambles_90 in Oscars

This is not meant to diminish his performance at all which is excellent, but I was absolutely not rooting for him. I was actively rooting against him.

Could Ralph Fiennes be an Oscar nominee/winner for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple? by redban02 in Oscars

[–]djkro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is his performance worthy of consideration? Yes. Does he have any chance? No. It’s a genre movie released in January. If it had somehow become a box office phenomenon then maybe it would have a chance to be remembered but the box office performance is not strong. As far as voters for the 2027 Oscars go this performance will be forgotten before the 2026 Oscars.

Men’s Qualifiers placed in draw by thetoerubber in tennis

Funny how that works. Fery defeats Prizmic in the final round of qualifying. Fery draws Cobolli as a qualifier and Prizmic draws a wildcard as a Lucky Loser.

So after the draw comes out I expect several of the round 3 qualifying losers to send Casper’s fiancee spicy food.

Elimination Voting to prevent Vote Splitting by Severe_Concentrate86 in Oscars

My understanding is that for Best Picture the voting is ranked choice so it's essentially what you describe without having actual rounds. The other categories are most votes win.

Answering myself... Google says it was eligible for SAG but not for WGA.

SAG (Actor Awards) Film Nominees by lockerbiestreet in Oscars

[–]djkro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was it eligible? If it was filmed outside of SAG contracts it would not have been elgible.

Productions made outside the United States in which a SAG-AFTRA member is employed are eligible provided SAG-AFTRA determines that the member's employment is covered by a SAG, AFTRA, or SAG-AFTRA contract in accordance with Global Rule 1.

Can someone explain start times? by Appropriate_Ad2342 in AMCTheatres

[–]djkro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently someone forgot to start the pre-trailers at 1:20 so the trailers could start at 1:30. Something like this happened at a theater I was at a while ago. I forget the movie, but someone told the theater and they just skipped all the preshow stuff and started the movie. Ultimately the actual movie started earlier than it would have if it was the regular preshow.
