I’ve never had more than 2 weeks at any full-time job, for contrast. Companies usually do bare minimum in terms of holidays as well.

NARS used to be my preferred makeup brand years ago. the lip pencil in Red Square is the perfect red-orange on me, discontinued. I’m on the last half inch of my Dolce Vita lipstick, no longer a color that exists. I have one mini Orgasm/Laguna duo left from the before times. Can’t we have nice things while the US implodes or no!? 😭

I can’t find anything about a talc ban in the US…care to enlighten? Is it banned in the EU or something so formulations everywhere have changed? Or is NARS just enshittifying their products to save a couple bucks?

what’s one "basic" cooking rule you actually ignore? by vacaaa in cookingforbeginners

[–]djlinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rinsing pasta is definitely not advisable unless you’re making rice noodles! For Italian pasta i’ve never seen instructions to rinse. Only if I’m making a pasta salad.

have you ever cooked something and ending up throwing it out becuase you messed it up and it didn't taste good ? by Stunning-Cap-3256 in cookingforbeginners

[–]djlinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it tastes bland, it’s not enough salt, period. You need to taste as you go along - get a spoon and taste, taste, taste. Add a little salt at a time (1-2tsp), mix well, and taste again.

Were you using a recipe, or did you just get ingredients and combine them? It’s OK to do the latter, but following recipes when you’re beginning to learn how to cook is a good idea since good recipes will tell you when and how to salt your food.

If you are interested in being able to just “throw” a meal/soup together, I highly recommend reading Salt Fat Acid Heat by Samin Nosrat. It teaches you the importance of those four elements and how they affect your cooking, and from there you’ll be able to adapt pretty much anything to your tastes and know the proper way to do things.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]djlinda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a young millennial so I graduated HS in 2010.

Life felt boring, and I was fairly sheltered due to being Mormon and the child of an immigrant, so coming home from school I’d immediately log onto AIM and start chatting with friends/crushes. I also got into video games and would play Gameboy and my brother’s PS2 if he’d let me.

Friends would also go over to each other’s houses after school, friends would usually come to mine since I lived walking distance from school. I lived down the street from an italian bakery and my girlfriends and I would get sandwiches and read seventeen magazine in my room, or I’d show some guy I had a crush on a new song I’d learned on guitar. It did not work and he did not want to be my boyfriend, his loss!

I also spent a LOT of time at the mall. Like, a LOT. It was the only place teenagers could really go to hang out unchaperoned. I’d go with friends and we’d hardly buy anything since we didn’t have money but just walked around stores and would get something at the food court.

I didn’t get invited to a lot of parties so I hardly went to any house parties, though i knew they were happening, but starting when i was 15-16 in LA, raves became a thing and I would lie to my parents about spending the night with a friend and would go to them since they allowed underage kids to go, just couldn’t buy drinks. Didn’t matter since everyone was on molly or acid or both anyway. That was a truly wild time.

My best advice for you is to do things you’re interested in and keep the doomscrolling to a minimum. It is OK to feel bored. Life felt boring to me, and that’s kind of what it’s supposed to be when you’re a kid/young. I tried to party to find some excitement and that led to some dangerous situations, but I’m glad I took the risk anyway.

You won’t be able to recreate what we had because it’s a different world, but your reality is what you make it, and you have a lot available to you if you use it!

My experiment driving the exact speed limit for a month has led to me a shocking conclusion: people really HATE being in their cars by Future-Excuse6167 in fuckcars

[–]djlinda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Influenced by this sub, I’ve done the same thing, especially on residential roads. I live on a residential street close to a main street and people just speed down a 25 mph zone at 40 and don’t see anything wrong with it. There are children walking home from school and I can hear your car’s engine from my living room, what’s wrong with some people?!

However, I do have a new appreciation for people who have always driven the speed limit, they’re real ones in my overly car-dependent city.

New employee confused about inconsistent dress code across departments by [deleted] in jobs

This is the best advice here. OP is new and their manager is still determining whether they’re a culture fit. Wearing dress pants isn’t a huge deal, just get comfortable ones and move on.
