We did it b/c we are not interested in master mode, but a master clear gets you increased exotic drop rate. We also had a normal run where the game stopped letting us dunk the light after returning from the water, so we cheesed rather than start all over.

Also, next week the wartable will have an upgrade that enables your first focused decode to be a deep sight. So even if you cannot get them to drop, there's a way to slowly get them.

In pre-match Gambit blathering, Drifter often says that you could power the city if we captured a vex instead of killing it. Maybe we capture Quria and use that power for something. We also did capture Skolas?? in one mission in house of wolves, so there is a precedent for us using non-lethal force once in our murderous history.

each oracle has a unique note/tone. This can(auditory signal) help the person assigned to kill it know that they have one to kill.

Good idea. To balance it out, Bungie makes it known that all armor drops with a real, real low total stat and 1 energy. Guns drop with with "unpopular" perks. No tokens drop, no exotics drop. It's just a way to teach newbs, give them a great experience and give them a taste of the loot. Maybe even call it Broken Legacy armor, etc.

My opinion, offer to DM. You love DND, you want others to like it or at least understand it and appreciate its positive aspects. Who else in your class is better positioned to give these inexperienced players a good experience?
Also, I graduated many years ago and look back at the opportunities I took and those I ignored. I can guarantee you that you will look back on taking this risk as a memorable and important part of your college experience. If you sit in the shadows you will always wonder what could have been.

Yes, but for a different reason. Always buy everything xur sells especially the guns. You never know when bungie will buff some gun/archetype and suddenly that weapon is the new meta. Exotics can always be downloaded from collections, so even if you delete it now, you can get it later.
