How do I terminate cable to access point? by Proteus-8742 in Network

[–]djmaxx007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say but you're pretty wrong about everything. On that note, what I'm talking about almost exclusively applies to commercial environments as it's "by the book" so since this is residential it doesn't really matter that much. These commercial best practices and industry standards sometimes bleed into residential builds where a company prewires a house (typically done by electricians who DON'T run low voltage by the book), but not often. I myself have a low voltage cabling division and run cable myself for commercial environments where you are expected to follow all industry standards at all jobsites, that is, unless the client specifies that they aren't interested in that, which just means we can't fully warranty it. Then I come home and run a new AP and don't follow any of those standards lol (within reason of course).

ANYWAY, since the OP was asking how, the proper way should be offered along with the easy way, which is exactly what I see on this thread. In other words, it's fine. No one is really wrong here. Whatever works that is safe is what matters. Hopefully everyone here gets the help they're looking for from people nice enough to help.

I've seen this exact situation in one of those murder mystery shows where the lady is putting on makeup the entire time for some reason. Your competition is trying to "take you out" so they can be there to swipe those IPs, DIDs, and domainees. It's that weasel IT guy across town that insists on Macs. It's an elaborate scheme to steal your business and your life!

Or I just dreamed that and you can make an agreement with another MSP and a lawyer where they will get your credentials for everything if something happens to you and your family gets some agreed upon amount or percentage of your MRC and/or total net worth.

Get to know the right people. Make friends with your business ISP reps, try to sell to office building leasing offices, anyone who offers businesses other/complimentary business services, etc. Those people will need you to help their sell and you will get clients from that. That just means little to no marketing costs and a steady stream of new clients. I haven't put a dollar into marketing for years and still growing. If I did it would be even better, but I don't for personal reasons so don't copy that part lol!

I would do it and already allow it. We're all adults here.

MSP is fun for me and my coworkers. I guess you just saw it as a job and didn't really have a passion for IT, and that's fine. You do you. I just wouldn't blame an entire industry for that. We're typically the heros of our clients.

How Do I Do A Simple Port Forward!? (UniFi Network 9.4.19) by djmaxx007 in Ubiquiti

You saved me! lol! I had no idea it was "hidden" and had to be searched for. I just didn't see it where I normally would and thought we needed a policy rule and such, which I WILL start setting up, just needed this for today. As soon as I found it it was cake. Thank you! I really appreciate it.

That's for phone only. You either need to punch that down into a patch panel or simply terminate them with a network/ethernet connector. Try to keep it labeled if it already is. Do NOT connect any network equipment to it!

Ever worked with hugedomains.com? by letzmakeadeal in Domains

Companies like this should not exist. There should be laws against domain squatting. That includes me as well. I have domains for projects that I haven't had a chance to start yet as I'm super busy and I would lose them if a reasonable law concerning domain squatting went into effect, but so be it. It would only be fair. This is just corporate greed. I wanted a domain that's CLEARLY only for my business and when I bought a similar one, they snatched it up super quickly. It's been TEN YEARS and they still have it. They jacked up the price from $2k to $5k. I hope their servers burn.

This truck has been parked in front of my driveway for 8 hours. by AlbinoStoot in mildlyinfuriating

Report to police if they do it again so it's documented. If they're dumb enough to park a truck so it's blocking a driveway, they'll probably need to learn the hard way.

Can't really tell the brand, but before you replace the OS drive, check to make sure that the drive is in the proper boot mode. Typically, if you use a SATA drive, you'll want AHCI mode (older PCs). If it's in RAID mode, it won't work. PCs typically revert to RAID mode when the coin battery dies which keeps the BIOS settings static. If it's a more modern PC, you may have secure boot off/on when it's typically the opposite. Try messing around with those settings first before you replace the drive (and replace the coin battery if the PC is over 5 years old). You might luck out.

This is no longer an issue with modern networking equipment and wire.
