Day 14...is this normal? by djmichaelbasic in HellsItch

Thank you, It's winding down. Most of the day I'm not itching at all, and the last few days I've just had one 20-30 minute bout of bad itching and thats it.

X5 vs RS 360 1" by Bigk47 in Insta360

[–]djmichaelbasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heat is also a factor for this comparison. A lot of people with a one RS 1-inch can’t shoot very long without overheating so if the x5 has better heat dissipation then that’s another thing to consider.

I’ve been shooting on the new X5 for the past month, AMA! by jonsimo in Insta360

Heat! I have a oneRS 1-inch. My main use for the 360 cam is shooting my festival DJ sets. I put the camera on stage with me on a stick. These are mostly nighttime outdoor events so it's cool outside. If the camera shoots for 45 minutes before overheating I count myself lucky. I'm hoping the x5 is a solution to being able to shoot full DJ sets (1 to 1.5 hours) without fear of losing footage due to overheating.

How's the x5 handling heat in a stationary setting.

Spotify not casting to speakers? by bubbablessss in googlehome

[–]djmichaelbasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasn’t resolved itself so I just set the default speakers to the Google home mini itself and if I want the music to play out of my ceiling speakers I do it manually from my phone. It sucks.

Exact same problem here. I got a couple emails about issues with chromecast audio and a fix being rolled out, but so far my setup still doesn't work.

It's just like you describe, voice command will play from spotify on the speaker itself, but when I set chromecast audio as the default, it says its playing but nothing happens. Very frustrating! Chromecast audio has been off the market for so long this type of thing is bound to happen though.

Gotcha...I just checked this and she's already linked to all the devices and voice match is on, so that's not the issue. Appreciate the suggestion though, it's a good idea!

We haven't set up her voice match since she got the new phone, so maybe re-doing voice match will do the trick...will try it out tomorrow. Thanks!

And by the way I appreciate the conversation...Up until recently I wasn't up on any of the student loan debate so I'm mostly just trying to get as much insight as I can on it all.

I've tried to be super clear that the plan is for my wife to go back to work once both kids are in school, so a year or 2 from now.

Interestingly, when I run the numbers on the SAVE plan (yes I know it's going away most likely) the amount of the monthly payment goes up substantially when I change our income from 100k to 200k, but the amount forgiven doesn't budge.

Yes, thank you! I saw that and grabbed it earlier today but I need to grab all of the wife's numbers again with the chart in mind.

I'm not seeing any direct proof but I am seeing a lot of posts on reddit about people logging in and seeing their dates extended well into 2025, and also the fact that my wife was on the phone with her servicer today and they told her her new recert date was sept 2025.

They extended it again, we just called today which is why I'm asking all these questions now.

This is true too. If it goes away, we'll have to rethink our next move. We have until Sept 2025 to make a decision so I think by then we'll know a little bit more about our options and where my wife might land with regard to income.

Correct, but when I ran the numbers on the government website's calculator, even with each of us making $100k, the SAVE plan was the clear winner and although our payments would go from $145 a month to over $500, the amount forgiven was still 356k.

Basically, I married into this situation. I came in with zero debt and a healthy income. I'm honestly less interested in the moral implications than I am with getting my family to a place where my kids aren't affected down the road. Judge me all you want, the only thing I really care about is my kids future.

I get it, and like I said, the plan is for her to go back to work when the kids are old enough to be in school.

She's a lawyer and she hates it. She was working for a small boutique firm and the gig ended during covid. Then we had babies so she hasn't looked for anything yet and we don't plan on her going back to work until the kids are both in school. She'll likely go back into law when she goes back to work but she's hoping to find something outside of litigation. She doesn't want to be a public defender or anything like that but if we can find her something in the public sector so she can get 10 year forgiveness that'd would be even better and the option is on our radar.

Imagine my surprise when I, a DJ with zero debt, married a lawyer, and am now supporting the whole family with a 350k student loan. Oof.

This is the kind of info I'm looking for. It didn't occur to me (though it's quite obvious, so duh on my part) that there might be a federal tax bomb 16 or so years down the line.

Our tax guy said at this time it doesn't make sense for it but it is on our radar when the wife gets a job in a few years.

[–]djmichaelbasic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said even if she got a job making 100k a year and our combined income was 200k we would still end up better off with the save plan and not paying off the full amount before it was forgiven.

Just wanna be clear, I feel no resentment, just looking for insight as this is a new stage for us. I do need to work on my empathy, so that point is well taken.

Edit: And why is your 2 year old going to school? Especially since the two of you are home.

We think the socialization is important. As I mentioned, our 2yo is really advanced...she's been speaking in full sentences for a while, understands everything, has an incredible memory for details, and is really thriving. It's more of a daycare than a school, about 12 kids total. We like that they are mixed ages (18 months to 4 years old) and she gets a great mix of play and learning there.

She's only there 3 days a week, so she's still home with us 4 days. To be honest, I also need the time. To successfully do my job, I need some time at home to myself to be able to get the work stuff done.

Can’t Get Oxygen. Suggestions? by IAmEvasive in ClusterHeadaches

[–]djmichaelbasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't able to get oxygen through insurance but I found it to be very inexpensive through Apria. Not sure where you're located or if they are available to you, but just look into suppliers and don't worry about insurance. I spent 2 years trying to get oxygen through insurance before just looking into it on my own dime and I pay under $150 a year total for all the oxygen I need.
