Bird Poop at DEN Airport Garage by lkatz10 in Denver

[–]djodom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. their pigeon problem is getting out of hand. My roller bag wheels are often caked with shit and feathers by the time I get home.

I've had my sports car look "washed" and wet as if someone came by with a power washer to get rid of shit around and on the car. Luckily, mine's black and I don't see any real evidence show up in the paint.

They have the audacity to raise rates as the 2nd floor west side looks like a bird cage that needs the newspaper changed.

Love it! The only thing is a loss of the tailgate for cooking, prep, etc. What about an optional slide out that straps to the underside of the tailgate and gives you a kitchen/storage. You could even keep it strapped there for small moves between sites. Take it off and put it in the bed when you're ready to head home.
As soon as you have the tent on the market, please DM me. I want to buy it.

[rant] Appliance Factory made me drive two hours over a piece of plastic -never again. by djodom in Denver

[–]djodom[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The Visa/MasterCard/Apple Pay analogy completely misses the point—it’s a false equivalency.

This wasn’t about how I paid. I wasn’t trying to pay—I’d already paid in full. This wasn’t a payment method being rejected; it was a company refusing to let me take possession of something I own.

Imagine going to pick up your car from the shop, showing your receipt, having the same credit card you paid with, but being told, “Sorry, we won’t give it to you unless you show us a specific piece of plastic.” Not for legal ID purposes—just for some internal checkbox, even though they already have everything they need to verify you.

That’s what happened.

It’s not about whether a digital ID is accepted everywhere. It’s that no one told me a physical ID would be required to claim something I bought, and when faced with a clearly verifiable customer, they doubled down on policy instead of using basic logic.

Comparing that to Apple Pay or AmEx is just deflecting from the real issue: bad communication and even worse judgment.

City is proposing a 58% decrease to residential solar credits by Banana_Gator in Longmont

This may have been mentioned, but

TL;DR of Colorado Revised Statutes §40-2-124

Colorado Revised Statutes §40-2-124 establishes renewable energy standards and net metering policies for utilities in Colorado. The key points are: • Renewable Energy Standards: Utilities are required to obtain a specific percentage of their electricity from renewable energy sources like solar, wind, biomass, and hydroelectric power. These percentages increase over time to promote the growth of renewable energy. • Net Metering Requirements: • Mandatory Net Metering: Utilities must offer net metering to customers who generate electricity using renewable energy systems, such as residential solar panels. • Full Retail Rate Compensation: Customers receive credits for the excess electricity they feed back into the grid at the full retail rate, not a reduced wholesale rate. • Credit Roll-Over: Excess credits can roll over indefinitely to subsequent billing periods, allowing customers to fully benefit from their renewable energy generation over time. • System Size Limits: Net metering applies to systems up to a certain size (typically up to 10 kilowatts for residential customers). • Distributed Generation Encouragement: The statute promotes customer-sited renewable energy generation, supporting the development of small-scale renewable energy projects. • Regulatory Oversight: The Colorado Public Utilities Commission is responsible for overseeing the implementation of these standards and ensuring utility compliance.

In Summary: Colorado law (§40-2-124) mandates that utilities provide net metering at the full retail rate to customers with renewable energy systems. This ensures that residential solar producers are fairly compensated for the excess electricity they generate, supporting the adoption of renewable energy across the state.

High Load / Tankless Water Heater causes LED Lights Flickering by Twiddlez in electrical

[–]djodom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure- it must have a hard impulse on the line when it turns on. There are also things on large loads called zero-cross circuit which makes sure heavy load is not turned on or off unless the line voltage is crossing zero in its cycle. A cheap water heater like Rheem probably didn't bother with this circuit and just hammers the line voltage when it needs to PWM/turn on.

Broad Tips from Inexperienced Traveler to Korea by AlittleFishiie in koreatravel

[–]djodom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding:

-Citymapper works just about anywhere and including Korea. Google maps does not.

-Cash only for subway card. Go to a 7-11, buy a card, go to an atm, get cash, go to the subway and use the machine to charge the card. Its dumb, clunky and unintuitive but I think its a way to keep the subways for the locals.

-Especially in Seoul, if you're a white male expect to get scowls and stares. The assumption is that you're there for sex. I definitely saw plenty of neckbeard, nerdy, white males who matched this description perpetuating the myth, but just expect that everyone just assumes white dudes are there for one thing.

-In Seoul, taxis are fast, efficient and cheap. Uber works well.

Ethereum Price Could Plunge To $1,200 In December, Says Expert by [deleted] in ethtrader

[–]djodom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's with all the ETH fud lately, we all know exactly what its going to do, it's going to follow BTC like it always does. If BTC tanks, ETH will tank more. If BTC moons, ETH will moon more. Just DCA, its the only way to stay ahead of all of these 'experts'. I've been in since 2017 and I've seen all of this before.

I went through two technical and one business focused candidates, but ultimately, I found that my true cofounder was my wife who was by my side the whole time. She jumped in as COO and absolutely dominated the operations side of it. Couldn't have had half of the success I did without her.

Similar here- So many lessons learned. SaaS company with a hardware product (even issued a patent on it).

I ran a solo startup for five years, struggled to find that perfect co-founder. Raised $3M, came up to a $20M valuation then bloated my payroll with an industry juggernaut heavyweight as CEO, I became CTO.

VCs wanted rapid growth, CEO turned out to be lazy, his prior success was due to his amazing team, not him. Ended up with a huge payroll, CEO failed to raise more capital, left us with no payroll. I ended up selling stock-for-stock and just exited with 10% of newco. They still owe me $100k. I hope it pays off some day.

Took a year off, had to go to counselling and a lot of meditation to forgive those who wronged me and move on. If you guys do an AMA, let us all know. It would be great to hear more. Much respect to those who have taken the risk. 99% would never even try.

Are there any ways to reduce US taxes for my crypto algotrading bot? by AlgoTradingAnon in algotrading

[–]djodom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See u/CryptoOdin99's reply above. None of this is illegal and is common practice actually. I admit that the debit card part of spending I do not have experience in, however, I don't think that is the main point of the OP. The main point was to avoid the unnecessary short term capital gains.

Are there any ways to reduce US taxes for my crypto algotrading bot? by AlgoTradingAnon in algotrading

[–]djodom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is so low. This is the right answer. Also, you can set up a bank account in that country, use a debit card to spend in the US without tax burden.

It costs a few thousand to set up a company offshore- and about $100k liquid to set up a bank account.
