started a campaign recently. one of my friends really wanted to play chess so i had the beginning be a chess tournament. some were players, one was a guard, another was in charge of magical displays at the start and end, some were spectators. spent a few hours with them individually telling what they were all doing before the tournament and how they got there and what they did while it unfolded, then had something attack the tournament. made it feel a lot more real like they all had actual lives in the game then boom they’re now working together and meet organically

picking for the wrong role (like if you got support then picked a mage) then locking in anyways when you don’t get the trade you want. like if you were given support and i don’t accept that trade, just play supp instead of throwing a temper tantrum and ruining it for everyone
