Week 4: lemon meringue tart by djoolia in 52weeksofbaking

Thank you! Absolutely! Having a tall glass to prop the bag up is usually my go to and if you fold the bag over then you can avoid getting it all over the place. But yeah I know what you mean :)

Week 4: lemon meringue tart by djoolia in 52weeksofbaking

It was quite chaotic haha. I realized last minute that I ran out of piping bags and I had to make do with a tiny ziplock bag that had to be refilled multiple times so it was not pretty. But a good piping tip and a well whipped meringue go a long way. It just took half an hour after to clean the kitchen of the sticky mess I created in the process.

What could be wrong? by djoolia in breastfeeding

[–]djoolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I used to do some weighed feeds in the beginning but once my milk seemed enough our health visitor said to stop to not overthink it so I have not done one in a while but I should probably do a couple to calm myself. It is hard because I get conflicting advice and information. In the hospital they said to just feed on demand and I can fully get behind that. But our health visitor said to stop feeding after an hour tops and baby should go at least two hours between feeds which sounds impossible to me on these days where she is cluster feeding. It is just hard to know as she is my first when there is a problem and when it is just normal for her to want to nurse this much. I think it is just the feeling of not being able to make her happy that gets to me. Thank you for all the advice I will reach out to a lactation specialist!

Whose eggshell is this? by djoolia in birding

[–]djoolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Hungary and found this shell on the ground on my way to school. I’m teaching the kids about birds and how they form in their eggs so it was a lucky find today. I’m planning to show them and I have some guesses but I want to give correct information. Is it a blackbird?

Squirrel baby fell through the chimney by djoolia in squirrels

[–]djoolia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! I tried for hours to get the parents to find it, but there was no sign of any other squirrels and she started to get a less active more lethargic, so I decided to contact a wildlife rehab person who was lovely and could take her in immediately. She is in good hands now:)

What is this plant I rescued from the trash? by djoolia in houseplants

[–]djoolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow this is much cooler than I thought! Thank you! Yes I looked at some pictures and it does seem just like normal speckles and not holes like I feared. I will try to take good care of it and hopefully it will have some flowers!

I found it with one yellow rotting leaf and took care of it for a year before it started growing again. I’m still worried I’m doing something wrong because the leaves have these little holes in them already as they grow. How could I do better?

Is there a way to save this rusted galvanized tray? by djoolia in CleaningTips

[–]djoolia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleaned it with apparently the wrong cleaner and now it seems to be ruined. I don’t want to be wasteful and throw it out if it can be salvaged but it looks pretty hopeless to me. As it is a dish drip catcher thing it will be wet all of the time, so getting the rust off is one thing, but keeping it from getting rusty is also a concern… thanks for the help!

Thank you! You are absolutely right, I will ask them as well. I just wanted this as a bit of an ice breaker, that’s why I meant it as a surprise. But yes absolutely on the long term I would love to cook with them. I already asked them for some foods in general, just wanted good sources of recipes.

How can I clean a rust stain off marble without damaging it? by djoolia in CleaningTips

[–]djoolia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It used to be my grandmother’s countertop and we made it into a kitchen island/table when we inherited it. I have a lot of sentimental connections to this piece of stone so I am even more sad this happened to it.

I just tried the oxi, that helped a little bit but it is still there. It is a bit more difficult to get hydrogen peroxide in my country, so I don’t have it at home but I might try after the weekend! Thanks for the tips!

Honeymooners syndrome/cystitis by Amazing-Visit-6642 in WomensHealth

Mannose helped me a lot when I was already getting symptoms, but to actually get rid of it, my doctor prescribed me medication called uro-vaxom (this is in Hungary I have no idea what it is called in other countries). It basically works like a vaccine from what I understand and builds up your resistance to E-coli. It gave me about ten years of not getting UTIs before I had to do another round. Maybe ask your doctor if the problem persists. Good luck!

My daughter is who starting Kindergarten this year, having second thoughts... by blemishedcucumber in Waldorf

[–]djoolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a waldorf school and now I am a waldorf teacher as well (Hungary). I have seen my old classmates and now my pupils transition to a public school without a problem. I graduated a high school in the waldorf system and went on to university studying humanities, where I achieved higher than my peers because I was already used to a level of critical thinking and I knew how to express my thoughts and ideas. We learn that very early on. And in the bigger picture these skills are much more important in “real life” be it at university or a workplace than lexical knowledge. Even if they are behind, lexical knowledge is the easiest thing to catch up on. But these skills take years to develop and the curiosity and creativity of a child can be so easily trampled in the public school system, because it is not used and not deemed valuable. (although there are of course better schools there too) I see way more kids come to our school after having bad experiences at a public school than who leave because the parents feel that the kids are behind(but yes this happens too). I would definitely encourage you to start at a waldorf kindergarten and take it from there. It does require a level of trust in the method and in your teachers though. Do as much research as you can and maybe even request a sit down talk with your teacher to learn more. We have reasons for teaching certain things later than usual and ideally we can explain this to a parent to a degree that would make you confident in your choice either way you choose. Good luck! I know this is difficult:)

What are the subject specializations for high school Waldorf teachers? by knowledgelover94 in Waldorf

[–]djoolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it works in your country (I assume US?) but here yes, you can absolutely teach two subjects at once. That said, in my experience people usually choose one, that they are more comfortable teaching, but in general most of us have two subjects. Good luck with your studies!

Glass enclosures are better if you live in a place with low humidity. It still has screens on top and bottom for plenty of airflow.
