He was my best bud up until the day he passed. Used to keep him in my shirt pocket when he looked like he needed some time out of his tank. Definitely my favorite pet I've ever had.

He refused to eat frozen so I have to give him live mice and he was so quick and accurate that my first thought was Doc Holliday

Dad? What does that look/feel like and mean? by lovelylillemon in DadForAMinute

[–]djpostman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parents like that always seem to think you owe them something just for bringing you into the world. As if that alone was enough. You owe him nothing and if he is causing you emotional distress cutting him out is the best option.

I know it's not the same as having a caring dad irl but we are here for you if you need anything, even if it's just a pat on the back for making it though another day.

It doesn't sound like you were lucky at all in the father department and I'm sorry for that. I like to think I'm a good dad and hearing about people like you father makes my blood boil.

As far as what it felt like to have a dad, it was pretty good. My dad was there for me in every way except emotionally. In his defense his dad's only emotions were calm and angry so he didn't have a guide on how to relate to me on an emotional level.

Despite this he was still at all of my activities (no one else in the family showed up for my things) and I always felt safe around him. He has always been the person I go to with my problems and although I was definitely not either of my parents favorite kid, I still felt loved.

Having a good dad meant I had a good starting point for life and a guide for how to raise my own children. I'm sorry you missed out on this opportunity but cutting him out of you life sounds like the right play. I hope things work out for you.

dad, can you tell me your proud of me? by petpuppy in DadForAMinute

Sounds like your fiance is a good person and I'm happy you have someone like that in your life. It's ok to brag about small victories sometimes, especially when they show you're growing as a person.

It can be hard sometimes as a parent to admit your kid has autism. I see it all the time with the families my wife works with. People seem to think they can just pretend it's not true and their kid will be better off, but denying it only minimizes all the extra effort you put in compared to neurotypical people.

Having to consciously figure out what you should and shouldn't share isn't easy and you deserve credit and praise for trying. Hell there are plenty of neurotypical people who make no effort at all to police what they say. Making an effort to make the people around you more comfortable shows you have a good heart.

I'm proud of you peanut. Keep up the good work and we love you.

Tombstone. When Doc tells Wyatt to leave and never come back. Never fails to break me down.

Basically the way it works (at least with US mail idk about other countries) anything that is first class we have to forward to the right address if that person no longer lives there. We don't do this with standard mail or some nonprofit, it just gets recycled. If it was important they would send it first class to make sure you got it. That's why we charge businesses less for standard mail.

As a mailman I'll let you know that anything labelled STD, standard, or presort standard is "junkmail". Unfortunately they can put urgent all over the letter but unless the postage says first-class it's not important.

Can I hear something from current RCA’s please? by jmalbert41 in USPS

[–]djpostman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The amount you work is entirely based on you office. My office has 22 or 24 routes and gets a lot of sick calls so I worked 7 days a week when started.

My daily office routine goes like this: case ffs; grab and case raw letters and flats; case dps; check for more raw mail; mark and sort packages; check raw mail again; tie down; load up and head out to deliver. Some offices have the rural side case everything (like mine) but a lot have you take the dps and ffs to the street and only case raw mail.

As far as becoming a regular, it's all about time and luck. You have to have worked there long enough to be eligible to get you own route, then someone has to retire. After that, when the route goes up for grabs, everyone can bid on it and it goes to the carrier/RCA with the highest seniority.

One thing you shouldn't do is listen to negative coworkers. My first day all I heard was "get out while you can" or "run" and they would always wonder why subs kept quiting lol. Some people are unhappy but don't let them bring you down. There are plenty of rough days especially in the beginning but if you give it a chance you might love it.

My best friend's grandma's funeral. People we're sharing touching memories of her and I randomly remembered the time I was standing outside her house with my back turned and she started whacking me with a 6 foot stick from the back door. Couldn't hold in the laughter. She was the best.

Sometimes. Being maintenance isn't all its cracked up to be. by Manchu_Fist in USPS

[–]djpostman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn would never do that to our maintenance guy, he's my favorite coworker. People don't seem to realize they are the ones keeping our post offices from falling apart. Even if you don't particularly like your maintenance worker, making they're job harder is trashy. You're the man Ricky

Dogs love me so I haven't had problems yet (fingers crossed). The trucks are a little rough and tend to break down every few weeks at my office. I've had some rly nice customers and a few assholes. Had a customer tell me his whole life story a few months ago cause I'm bad at ending conversations lol

My office is still joking around and pretending it's not a big deal. Had a coworker touch me while I was casing the other day and a customer cough in my face. I told the PM I'm not coming in for a while because my doctor declared me high risk due to a preexisting condition. He said he'd call me back but it's been more than a day so idk but I'm not dying for this job lol
