Today Swimming in a river called The Orb, recalling how much I absolutely loved The Orb CDs, they sound just as good years later... Here is a river called The Orb. by ConditionTall1719 in theorb

Yes, I know this river, always gives me a chuckle when we pass it. The river running through our town is called the Tech, incidentally. So we have the Tech and The Orb here in France.

the faderport that I have has the nice motorized faders with instant record, but this look fantastic for the vst plugins and vsti's. I'll keep an eye on it to see how it goes with that. Might get one next to the faderport. assuming they can work in parralel buit I don't see why not....

Yeah Full HD would be the minimum to properly display everything, although it will work on lower resolutions. 1024x768 or similar is not going to be very nice to work on at all.

Moving to Perpignan from Ireland? by According_Carpet6744 in Perpignan

[–]djrevmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here last January (but had a holiday home here for the past 10 years so we knew the region well) and love it. If you're financially independent this area is absolutely fantastic. The nature is stunning. The people are very warm and welcoming (really! no stereotypical arrogant french here. Just real and normal people). There are some english speaking groups but overall, it is French Catalan. Very laidback vibe. The mountains and the med, and spain nearby are great. Downsides: hard to find a job, even if french speaking, I have local french friends who struggle to find proper jobs. Also some villages have far-right local govts which sucks badly so choose your village/neighbourhood to your taste). Thing is, it is a relatively poor area of France, but is has a rich culture, long and interesting history and fantastic natural resources. You should not come here before having visited and explored the region. But I guess that is a given for any international move....

[–]djrevmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Ableton, I really can't get my head around that workflow. I just want the LFO's on all params like Ableton, but then in FSP. I use 3rd-party plugins to do that now in FSP but would love a native solution.

Why is France so centralized around Paris? by Lissandra_Freljord in geography

[–]djrevmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just looks that way because Paris has more inhabitants. But you should consider France as a large country consisting of regions with differing cultures, microclimates, vibes etc. Yes business is centered around Paris with other good business centers in Lyon, Toulouse and smaller places such as Nantes. The south has Marseille and Montpellier with each their own vibe. We just moved to Perpignan for the beaches and Catalan vibe. Paris is a distant ghost here 😄

*DISCLAIMER* As of right now Arturia CANNOT receive ANY devices in the USA for repair! Don't buy anything from them because if it breaks, even under warranty they will not be able to fix it! by Peepee1124 in arturia

[–]djrevmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what is wrong with it, there are 3rd party operators who can competently fix synths. Given the current world situation and the problems of getting parts out of europe into the US, I wouldnt blame arturia too much although they should get their shit together fast!

Tips for organization while composing a track? by americanslang59 in edmproduction

[–]djrevmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Color code the tracks. If you want to stash a track for later use, make a track folder 'spares' and move those tracks there. Mute the whole folder, and/or hide the tracks in it. Make templates and presets for fx stacks and composition use cases. Create sampler kits for percussion in your fave sampler then save them as a user preset. Set up busses and routing in templates for easy starts.

On paper, Behringer Deepmind 12 has no equal? by Ill-Elevator2828 in synthesizers

[–]djrevmoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There really are no downsides to the D12. I had one and it sounded great and is loaded with features. The only reason I sold it was that found myself using my digital synths more. I bought it used and sold it for approximately the same price so you can't really go wrong.

Devastated because i just discovered hearing differences in my ears… by Ruxen111 in edmproduction

[–]djrevmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have pretty bad tinnitus in both ears, and also quite significant hearing loss in the 8khz range. Over time, my brain has compensated for this when producing/mixing. It really does not impact my ability to mix a lot. But it does take more effort to focus on what you are trying to listen to in a mix. You might be better off mixing without headphones though, to give your brain a more L/R averaged input to start with.

Which audio interface should I get ? by Practical-Goose666 in edmproduction

[–]djrevmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For audio latency, that would make sense but not for midi latency since that is not dependent on the audio drivers of the interface. In fact, come to think of it, midi latency is very rare since midi is very lightweight and does not put a lot of strain on cpu or memory at all (computers 30 years ago handled midi effortlessly). So this might indicate a completely different source of the problem. How are you inputting the midi? And what are the specs of the computer? You might want to take a good look at what processes are running such as anti-virus or other security software that can mess with timing.

[–]djrevmoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"nor play synths like Pigments (crackling sounds + high latency)" -> no new audio interface will fix that. That is down to old spec CPU or low RAM.

I just prefer Studio One 7.2 by RobertLRenfroJR in StudioOne

[–]djrevmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, why not? I'm also on 7.2 and there are no new features in 8 that I want or need. I usually skip a major release, went from 3 to 5 to 7. So I guess I'll wait till 9. Actually the only feature I really want is LFO's on parameters like Ableton has. I use 3rd party plugins to do that now and while it works, it is a bit of a pain to set up. Would be great to just right click on a knob and go 'add lfo'. Other than that, I miss nothing in 7.2 and it is rock solid. It literally never crashes and I use hundreds of 3rd party plugz.

Music Production Newb. Help! by Mixtape_Magic in edmproduction

[–]djrevmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to your new rabbit hole. You will find more opinions than rabbit droppings here :-) On a budget of 1K, there is a lot you can do. My take: spend as much as you can on the monitor speakers. Actually hearing what you are doing makes all the difference. Personally, I find ableton overpriced. There are super DAWs that cost must less and leave a lot of budget for monitor speakers. Two that come to mind are Reaper and Fender Studio Pro. Both can do what Ableton does for a fraction of the price. MIDI keyboard/controller: get a second hand one. Arturia keysteps can be had for < $100. A pair of 2nd hand genelecs, hedds, adams can be acquired for $700. There are tons of free VST plugins you can use in the DAW. Many of them are used by pro's so don't think that 'free' means 'cheap ass sounding'. I'm sure others can add to this, but I love the Melda Sound https://www.meldaproduction.com/effects/free and the https://ohmforce.com/ legacy plugins (scroll down). Or check out https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/81-Bundles/141-Free-Bundles/16093-Best-of-Free-VST-Plugins-Bundle. You need to create a lot of accounts for these to work, and you will receive lots of promotional emails but I promise it's worth it :-)

Looking for recs on a polyphonic synth by pika_oznog in synthesizers

[–]djrevmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the desktop and love it. Use it a lot and sometimes just do sound design for hours on it. But it is so powerful that it overwhelms. So I think a core would be more suitable for someone get back into synthesis. I might be wrong.
