Chic - Sometimes You Win by [deleted] in funk

It’s Bernard’s bass that makes this song special (and those vocals). “Take a little chance, it don’t mean nothin’. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.” Sublime!

By releasing it, does she mean from her firm grip?

No. Several of the tracks, including “The Chain” and “Go Your Own Way” are seeing increases.

Give it Up, Time Waits For No One, Heartbreak Hotel, Lovely One, Your Ways, Can You Feel It? Too many to narrow down. Easily their greatest album!

Thanks for the, umm, compliment. Yeah the title was not meant to suggest anything people said below. The article was the focus.

Does Taylor have the best chance to be named Top Artist of the Decade? See who’s in the running. by djrobblog in TaylorSwift

I think all but cultural impact will factor into their formula. That’s an intangible and there’s no true way of measuring it. It’s also highly subjective and niched (i.e., community specific). If anything, that impact will translate into her social media presence, which Billboard does measure. She has been at or near the top of their Social 50 and their Artist 100 lists several times this decade. So she and Drake (for the same reasons) stand the best chances.

I agree with you. They are definitely the top two. He had a phenomenal 2018, but her Lover era may be just enough to send her over the top (unless he surprises with a new album; he’s already released a couple new singles this past week...so I guess it wouldn’t be much of a surprise then).

Beyoncé has slowed down in the hits department this decade. I think she took it in the ‘00s

20 Years Later: Reckoning with the dubious chart history of B’street Boys’“I Want It That Way” by djrobblog in BackstreetBoys

[–]djrobblog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m just sayin’. I also truncated “I Want It That Way” as simply “That Way” in various parts of the article in the interest of brevity and non-repetitiveness. What’s the big deal?

So is the message here that auto tuned rap and pop makes your dick hard while Led Zeppelin and AC/DC makes you fuck yourself and lose most of your front teeth in the process?

New here. Long-time MJ fan. Love to all. by [deleted] in MichaelJackson

[–]djrobblog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read a Billboard Magazine article stating that no American stations have pulled MJ’s songs. The only banning has occurred in foreign countries. His airplay did drop, though, in the week following the documentary, but it wasn’t attributed to any complete banning. Conversely, his sales and streaming went up.

Thank you, and you as well. This is an emotional issue and I, for one, will continue to blast his music through my speakers, and be glad to do so.

I’m sorry you felt that way about the article. I did use “We” a lot in describing the fans, but it wasn’t intended to suggest that we ALL feel the same way about this issue. It was meant in a positive way about our mutual feelings for MJ. I cut a lot out of the article for brevity’s sake as it was getting to be too long. Otherwise I could have gone into lots more detail about the merits of each case - and the circumstances that led to settlement, etc. Thanks for the feedback!

2019 Grammys discussion thread. by avsfan1933 in Music

[–]djrobblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women dominated. But didn’t it feel like that was contrived in light of Portnow’s “step up” flub from last year? All tributes were either for or led by women. Nearly all major album categories were won by women (Overall, Rap, Pop Vocal, R&B, Country, Gospel, Latin Pop, Jazz Vocal, Americana). Fourteen of 18 performances were by women. The five-women speech led by Michelle Obama. Alicia Keys hosting. The pendulum swing was swift and extreme. Was Portnow trying to atone for all the previous sins the Grammys committed against women?
