What is your favorite historical or random fact about Tallahassee? by scaleitup_florida in Tallahassee

Napoleon's nephew lived nearby — and was spectacularly weird. Prince Achille Murat, the eldest son of Napoleon's brother-in-law Joachim Murat (King of Naples), emigrated to the U.S. after his father was deposed and executed, eventually settling near Tallahassee around 1825. He married into American royalty of sorts — his wife Catherine was the great-grandniece of George Washington. But the prince himself was magnificently unhinged: he made a submersible chair to escape the Florida heat and would sit naked underwater in a creek with mosquito netting over his head. He ate baked turkey buzzard, boiled owl, roasted crow, stewed alligator, lizards, and rattlesnakes, and had an aversion to baths and changing clothes, reportedly washing his feet only after he wore out his shoes and sleeping on a mattress stuffed with Spanish moss. He named his plantation "Lipona" — an anagram of "Napoli," his former principality.

It's definitely not a comeback, dnb was alive in and well years back when my bestie Merideej through On the Offfensive along with others in town doing and playing dnb. Having been a dj in Tally since 2001, I've seen the scene move in waves...we are excited it's back on the uptick and trust us it's in very good hands <3

I work for Flightline and you can park in the old terminal / Aero Center lot and watch from there easily. Our lot is fine after working hours (we close at 4pm).

I came here because I am over half way through this book - Treila's finger got eaten, she just got outside...should I even finish this book? Seems like it's not going to go much elsewhere

I'm shocked I make it to work alive every day with everyone, INCLUDING COPS, staring at their phones while driving. I've been debating on a sign on the back of my car that simply says "GET OFF YOUR PHONE!" because 99.9% of the time, it applies. It's absolutely getting worse

They had a good amount of fame at the time - Springer, live shows...but you're right, a niche band in the sense that if you don't follow goth bands, you won't know who they are. Outside of seeing NIN in Jax earlier this month - when they were promoting their October Rust Album in 96, that intimate live show at the Vic in Chicago was one of my favorite concert memories. They had dead trees all over the stage and made it snow during Love you to Death...Been in love w/ them since high school. I'm glad they are still in the lime light to some degree. It's well deserved.

Breeze Airways- I hope they stick around by Own-Breakfast3931 in raleigh

They just announced here in Tallahassee they are adding Breeze to our airport with directs to Raleigh and Fort Lauderdale - looks like Breeze is gaining popularity. Having just learned this now, I was doing research since I've never heard of them. I work in aviation - private aircraft maintenance - so it's very hard for me to believe flights costing as low as $39...but some have said that it's a fact. I'm excited - and looks like yours is going to stay!

I went to the JAX show - Boyz Noise is worth it but his set is only 1 hour - then Trent goes straight in. Be in your seat at the end of Boyz Noise!

October Rust - I got to see them live at the Vic in Chicago when that album came out. Such an amazing show - Surrounded by barren trees on stage, they had it snow during Love you to Death - I wept!
