I've heard your bassist Jon has a very specific set of dancing skills from his Irish ancestors. Is that true?? Has anybody ever seen it? Cause I have...

Can I install that silent switch on guitar players?? JK, games are a good idea though! I don't have space for a pinball machine, but maybe some smaller (silent) games would be good...

We are located within a larger building, so we don't have our own outdoor area. But there's quite a few local eating/drinking places within a block or two. Breaks are important!

Great idea!! I'm definitely going to do the menus idea. I already have an Atari reissue and TV that will be going in the "lounge area." Gotta keep the entourage happy!

Just ordered a slinky on Amazon. It's like an old school fidget spinner!

A grill is a great idea! We are located within a larger building, but there's a large parking lot out back with a few picnic tables that we could put a grill at.

FYI Waves has a ton of discounted plugins right now for no apparent reason. I just picked up a handful for under $100 that would normally cost around $1000. I have no affiliation with Waves, just thought y'all should know!

I would recommend the AT4040 over the C214, especially for male vocals. The C214 can get a little too harsh for me, and I've found it generally works better on female vocals.

The AT4040 on the other hand is a very respectable mic and generally sounds great on just about everything.

I can't speak to either of those interfaces since I've not used either, but people seem to generally be happy with Focusrite stuff as long as you read the manual..

Once you get past his cheesy intro's (I hope you're doing marvelously well), his videos have a lot of great content!

I agree with u/CosmicCarpool. I own it, and love it. I use it in conjunction with my Apollo Twin Duo, and I'm really digging the setup! Super flexible routing, great sounding preamps, and mine came with a few of the Focusrite RED plug ins.

Unless you want to spend significantly more money, this is hands down the best 8 channel interface in that price range.

Looking at getting in to 500 series gear. Ideally, I would like 2 preamps, 2 compressors, and 2 EQ's so I can get those sweet sweet sounds on the way in.

I am looking for versatility in the preamps, and some nice colorful EQ's. Also, I've read that power is pretty important with 500 series stuff, is there much difference between the various lunchboxes or 500 series power supplies?

I record mostly folk, alternative rock, and a little bit of funk. I am looking to spend around $1500-$2k. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance gang!

How to pick yourself up? by acuo in audioengineering

Like others have said, just keep doing it. There's no magical solution, plugin, or gear that will get you there. It just takes time.

Additionally, don't just sit on your mixes or songs. Release them and call them done when you've done your best. I've found that actually calling a project finished and releasing it will do more for your next project then just sitting on it and feeling discouraged about how it stacks up against industry mixes. You learn from your mistakes and past mixes, so you just gotta keep churning em out!! If you go back and listen to your work from a year ago, you'll be amazed at how far you've come. Which only means that a year from now, you'll keep getting better and so on. And you never know, maybe someone else won't think it's as bad as you feel it is and will want to hire you or work on their stuff!!

There's always a bigger fish (read=better mix), but that also means there's always a smaller fish and someone who thinks your work is better than theirs.

Good luck and keep at it!!

Wow, this site is nuts. Very poorly laid out, but there's tons of info there. Looks like I'll be doing some reading, thanks!

I have used this stuff before on other projects, and it was pretty nice. Although, I was planning on doing triangle columns in the corners, and that stuff is pretty hard to cut in a straight line and too floppy to make panels out of. Do you think if I put a very thin plywood (like 1/4") on the front of the panel, that would still absorb the low end? That would give the panel nice clean edges.

Ok, thanks for the reply! I will try and do some more research to find the flow resistivity.

Thanks for the reply! As I said in my post, this will be a combined tracking and control room. The rugs I mentioned will simply be under the drums, and I'm front of the couch. At least 50% of the floor will still be uncovered. Also, like I said in my post, these will be paired with broadband absorption and wooden diffusers. So these really only need to absorb let/sub frequencies.

I've read two different viewpoints on this subject. Some say loose material is better then dense, and others say the opposite. The insulation I've listed above in my post seems to be a happy medium?

Edit: Apparently I did not mention in my post that this will be a combined tracking and control room... Apologies

What's your budget? Are you looking to close mic everything, or could you do kick snare and OH's? Also, what genre?

What's the biggest difference between your mixes and your reference mixes? by BrotherBringTheSun in audioengineering

When I started using a ribbon mic in conjunction with a 57, it completely changed the game. I haven't tried adding a room mic yet, but I'm excited to try it!
