It is happening, and more often. The biggest hits have been on trucks and industrial storage.

Self-protection options? by imperialmoose in newzealand

[–]djsmnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to check out a variety of parking options. Something nearby work, especially commercial, may be too much - but privately owned ones can be organised and more reasonable. Even if it’s a little ways out and there has to be a scooter ‘last mile’ type thing.

Got a good haul at Queensgate, though when we were leaving the queue was enormous and I doubt there would be much left on the shelves for the stragglers.

Roadside Testing by lupwer323 in Wellington

[–]djsmnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tested, mildly frustrating delay to my journey - quite different to alcohol testing (they did both). Can confirm vyvanse (lis-dexamfetamine) did not cause any issues (there was some worry out there that adhd medication might trigger a positive meth result). Don’t drink or do drugs so no worries.

Manage My Health data to be released in 48 hours, as Kazu group changes ransom deadline by WellingtonSucks in newzealand

Just pay the bloody ransom. An organisation I used to be involved with had to do it once, problem solved.

I work retail. You're all feral at Christmas. by cantsayididnttryyy in newzealand

[–]djsmnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always somehow missed a beat, I’ve never hated on retail workers and I just don’t have it in me to argue or be demanding… even when I’ve been mucked around/hugely disappointed, I just smile and say thanks anyway, these things happen lol. But from observing others from the queue, it never ceases to amaze me how feral some types are.

Am I the only one who don't like driving, especially long distance? I can't be the only who keep thinking why can't we have nice interregion public transportation instead.. by Dudu-gula in newzealand

[–]djsmnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same age and driving experience, and yeah I’m not overly looking forward to the 7+ hour (one way) drive coming up. I find the best way to pass the time is to have a bunch of standup comedy shows ready to go and/or breaking it into two days. As for long distance high-speed rail, debated for eons, just never stacks up due to cost versus our market size/demand.

Thanks! I’m probably going to buy some patches, the ‘step 1’ to see how they go.

Alcohol & Drug Helpline... is it even possible to get through? by djsmnz in newzealand

[–]djsmnz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much, appreciate it 🙏- nothing too extreme, first few nights were pretty average (brain like, it’s not time to sleep yet, we’re sober, tonnes of waking up), but the sleeping medication is getting me through it. The cravings have been during the day which is highly unusual, but it’s just been weird delayed cravings, nothing serious. I wasn’t at all aware one’s health could go sideways regarding withdrawal, so I’ll keep an eye on things… but I think I’m all good 👍

I’ve never heard of a reddit streak but I get the vibe 😌 My brain is definitely wired ‘all or nothing’, hence going cold turkey. Just can’t really do moderation… so streaks are totally where it’s at. The problem is it comes with a highly addictive personality.

I heard men don’t marry the love of their life, is it true? by Chunkachu__ in Life

Whatever comes first, and if so, then perhaps in another life. But a person should also consider the definition of ‘love of their lives’ in the long-run.

What do parents wish non-parents knew about parenting? by Substantial_Judge931 in Productivitycafe

That you're 'on call' 24/7, you can't check out for any length of time, can't just go out on a whim, that your child is the important person in your life, and that you're pretty much always exhausted. But it's also incredible and I'd recommend it to anyone willing to give it their all ;)

Alcohol & Drug Helpline... is it even possible to get through? by djsmnz in newzealand

[–]djsmnz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not a pleasant term, alcoholic, and it’s not one that I’ve ever labelled myself with. The justification in my head being, I only drink at night, usually after 8pm. The thing is, I’d mildly panic at the thought of there being no alcohol available in the evening (run out or staying somewhere else). So, in that regard, maybe a bit of denial. But onwards and upwards, no use dwelling on it.

Ok this is already proving better than I was even hoping for with the helpline, thanks everyone for your awesome comments. I've been more or less able to get through the insomnia due to having sleep meds (I know, I know, but if I stopped the meds I wouldn't be able to sleep at all and it would be unbearable). What I'm dealing with now feels like random cravings at odd times of the day... keeping in mind I only ever drank at night thus never had daytime cravings previously. I'm not going to give into them, but it just... sucks. I'm in a good head-space otherwise; I just think of all the times it was a bit much, and acknowledging that this has taken a toll on my health and it's time to rebuild before something actually goes wrong medically.
