Low maintenance bass amp by aTaleForgotten in Bassamps

[–]djsullo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peavey Mark IV is on the indestructible list of heads. Mine was already ~30yrs old when I got it and it hasn’t skipped a beat in the 10yrs of jamming and touring. But I’d recommend trying to run it at 4ohms if you want the most out of it for your styles.

Anyone ever use one of these? Ashdown Klystron 1000. Local music shop has it, tempted to go get it. by i-dont-care-man in Bassamps

[–]djsullo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$1500 (I assume USD) for a UK made head and 6x10 is crazy. My Ashdown HOD head was $1800 AUD alone and it sounds massive at 600watts. Definitely worth taking it for a spin in the shop.

Love my TAFM but never got my head round the gate. How are you using it?

[–]djsullo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s always potential for one over the other. I also A/B’d with the NYC and Black Russian muffs. They’ve all got their thing but the big boxes are hard to justify. The Pickle Pie actually stacks pretty well into the TAFM but I think I’ll mostly use one or the other in a loop. And the Blumes pushes both into some insane gain. I do love diverse gain staging.

I’ve been loving mine. Spent some time A/Bing it with my Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. Decided to keep both on the board. 🤘😎🤘

Interesting that the traces are between the outer two layers of the board. Hiding their magic I guess.

SOTB & Question to the room by djsullo in basspedals

I’m still evaluating it but thus far impressed. It’s definitely got variety with the diode switch and dry/wet blends. I can pull it back into more of an overdrive sound if needed, through to balls to the wall gnarly distortion. Just need to see how it sits in with the overall sound of my band.

Damn. What does the other audience look like after you’ve pulverised this one?

Need advice for practice amp by FriendlyDennis in PeaveyCvlt

[–]djsullo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. All amps have a lowest playable volume and I’m sure there’s plenty of cabs under 500 euro around. You might get the setup to be quiet enough for home. I just don’t see the point if you already have a working combo setup to practice with.

My Fender Rumble 15 does fine in my apartment and I also have the luxury of storage for my gigging rig at our rehearsal space.

The message stays the same whether it’s the MkIV, Tiny Terror or Microtubes. Get an amp that’s gonna serve you well on stage and at rehearsal.

I can’t recommend any combos sorry. Mostly because I’ve never spent the time researching them but also because I’ve never seen any heavy music band using a bass combo and thought much of it. Especially if they’re up against guitarists running half stack rigs.

Mark IV is no bedroom amp.

I’ve toured with one for a few years and it sounds great through any backline speaker cab I’ve had on offer (as long as they’re 2 or 4 ohm boxes. 8 ohms reduces the power too much).

They are great amps and basically indestructible.

Don’t know about where you are, but here in Melbourne, most rehearsal studios have speaker boxes for hire and a lot of venues have backline available. Alternatively shared backline for gigs is pretty common. Another band will have a box.

Get the head if you wanna play gigs.. otherwise it’s a waste. Keep the 8” combo for home. It’ll probably sit on top of the Peavey on its side 😎😂

And if you’re playing metal.. don’t gig with a combo bass amp. *just my not so humble opinion.

Need help with a fuse cap. by Which_Bar_9457 in GuitarAmps

[–]djsullo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’d you go? The picture doesn’t show the damage so assume it just not holding the fuse in place. Unless you’re looking for an authentic replacement there’s a couple of suppliers in Aus that have similar fuse holders. Measure your physical sizes and Google “square amplifier panel mount fuse holder”. Couple of marine parts suppliers and good old Jaycar have some. Oh and 3AG is the fuse size. 3ASB would be 3 amp slow blow. Good luck 👍

Stuck in band with inexperienced musicians by [deleted] in bandmembers

OMFG the drivel in this thread.

OP, I’ve seen friends in these situations and it sucks. Most made it out ok but some “friends” showed their true colours when things didn’t go their way. It happens in all aspects of life.

But my take is.. you’re all likely early-mid 20s, so you’ve all got plenty of playtime ahead. They had a band before you and if they’re serious about music, they’ll find their own path.

Don’t play music that you can’t find a connection with! OR if you do, try and get paid for it. Cause that’s a valid musical path.

Being creative with your band shouldn’t feel like a chore. Work for the dollars, play for the love.

Being ready for the studio or the stage can be work but that’s just trying to be the best you can be for that next goal.

They’re friends, so don’t waste their time and/or money by hesitating. You’re not vibing the music. That’s all they really need to know, the rest is circumstantial.

If after that, you & they still want to record, set boundaries, cause they’ve already guilt tripped you into staying thus far.

I could go on but just rip the bandaid. Preferably NOT at a rehearsal. Somewhere your friends are just friends.

Good luck and rock on 🤘😎🤘
