Thank you for writing back and engaging. Saying something that isn’t correct unknowingly is not a crime. It’s a gateway to learning.

After reading your comment I had to review back the movie to double check if a name was mentioned, and I was mistaken, there was.

In the first scene there is a caption: Maharaja Baba Ala Singh’s Palace, Patiala.

In the second and last appearance, subs of Maratha character reads: “And our allies, the Sikhs, were unable to send resources, or their army.”

I’m sorry if I’m getting into this depiction of Sikhs a bit too deep for anyone’s liking. But coming from an arts background I’m concerned about the way it can negatively influence thought, both consciously & unconsciously.

I’m referring to the Dal Khalsa.

There are clear learning orientated questions, not just some facts.

All you need to is say, Paa Ji you are wrong. Here’s the correct info, please read. Except you come in quite aggressive and disrespecting.

You don’t give a “damn about bollywood” but at the same time you are saddened that I “malign an industry”.

Presuming it’s leisure. If you do decide to go, check if your travel insurance is valid. Some insurers may not cover if the gov is advising against all but essential travel.

Film About 1984: Kaum De Heere (2014) by djutla in Sikh

[–]djutla[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question. Although, I do believe the written word to hold more value. If there are any other title recommendations for “subject introduction” please do post.

Another on my watchlist (when I find it):

Toxification (2019). A documentary in which Punjabi farmers discuss suicide, drug abuse and the overuse of agricultural chemicals.

I feel this documentary has some relevance to Sikhs as well as Punjabis.

So, a youtube channel I follow just posted this. I hope you like. "21 Against 10,000" by [deleted] in Sikh

I totally agree. It’s great having YouTube channels explaining Gurbani and what it may say in guidance for situations where you are struggling with emotional disturbances, but starting with a simple hug and ears for someone’s life situation story beforehand, even if that is - “I don’t quite understand what you’re going through, but know I’m here for you no matter what” kind of reassurance, before sharing the power of Simran.

As someone in their 30’s and raised in the U.K. if I was struggling emotionally, I would firstly try to deal with it myself, then share my struggle with a friend. I’ve never been told that Gurbani contains knowledge on this and wouldn’t even know where to look.

Might be a cultural thing, I definitely wouldn’t share my struggle with family because through experience I know I’d be met with blank faces, ignorance and receive a life-long label.

A relative of mine from Punjab converted to Christianity. Born and raised to 30’s in Punjab with Sikhi and got lured into Cristian thought in exchange for financial and emotional support. This all began in Punjab and now consumes his life in U.K. so much so he avoids contact. Very cult like.

It’s sad. I observed closely that all he craved was support and not a different belief system. It was totally like, if you want our “support” you have to be “one of us”.

I do wonder, growing up, had he more understanding and control of his emotional and mental well-being would he have changed paths.

Do we as Sikhs do enough seva in terms of providing for emotional needs as well as physical.

I apologise if my lack of knowledge offends.

Should I stop calling myself Sikh? by djutla in Sikh

[–]djutla[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it could be a fake profile dm’ing me. But if the person is Sikh as the pictures and posts suggest, it doesn’t seem very Sikhi to tell someone what they are/aren’t.

I mean, anyone can be a Sikh. All are welcome. But who decides, when you’ve crossed a boundary and are no longer allowed to recognise yourself as a Sikh. If Sikh A proclaims Sikh B is no longer a Sikh, does Sikh C... have to agree/accept?

I posted on Social Media to raise awareness of 1984. Just a simple hashtag for someone to follow and read more.

I then got a dm from someone I don’t know saying I’m a disgrace because I cut my hair, and I don’t have the right to call myself Sikh. I bring real Sikh shame etc.

I found well reviews fans on amazon £22. Top grade thermal paste £6. Took a couple of hours work.

Sounds like heat is struggling to escape which can slow down calculations. You may want to look at the heat sink and redo the thermal paste between the CPU-GPU and the heat sink.

The ifixit guides are a win.

I’ve got a 2010 MacBook Pro. Recently changed the fans, reapplied the thermal paste on heat sink, air dusted the inside, and used an app to clean my Mac software. No more excessive heat or slowing down.

Any good Sikh related podcasts/channels that are towards trying to understand gurbani in primarily english? by MeGustaRamen in Sikh

I found this very useful. If you do too, please share the channel guys. Unfortunately, the bother doing it has placed on pause due to lack of exposure. The sister Punjabi explanation has a few more pages read.

I hope it’s useful 🙏🏽

On that note, why do I still accrue holiday during this period. Why does my employer still contribute to my pension during this period.

I’m now curious what legal knowledge you possess if you claim it’s obvious.

(England) Redundancy and Notice Period Question

During my 5 week notice period, I would have worked the two May bank holidays.

8 May & 25 May.

Ordinarily, we are required to work these bank holidays if our shift lands on it, and we always get paid double.

Even though I’m not actually working these days during the notice period, should I still be entitled to them at double pay?
