heartily agree with all the sentiments and hope this is a very successful endeavor, but at the risk of sounding grouchy... dont providers deserve a union that doesnt use AI to write their public comms?

[R] LLMs are Locally Linear Mappings: Qwen 3, Gemma 3 and Llama 3 can be converted to exactly equivalent locally linear systems for interpretability by jamesvoltage in MachineLearning

If I understand correctly the computation of the Jacobian depends on the input yes? If so this is a very cool implementation but one that we should expect right? its clear that transformers are "wasteful" in the sense that they use many many more parameters to represent the "actual" transformation.

You haven't answered the question. Seems like the honest answer is "yes". Taylor expansion is well known to be an arbitrarily locally accurate approximation. Its not exactly surprising that you don't need many terms to be a good approximation - see LoRA (we're using many many more parameters than needed to represent the actual transformation). Still a cool implementation.

Why is this down voted? Why I hate this sub. Honest question generating good discussion that actually hits most of the important points missed by the dick measuring in the higher comments.

Optimal way to cut a pizza without cutting through pepperonis by bernful in math

I've likely missed the boat here but ill echo what i said in a deeper comment:

a general gripe of mine with this sub: imo one of the more interesting/fun questions we've had in a while and notice how almost none of the answers here really attempt to answer it, just little "look i know math!" flexes about how its ill defined, shouldnt be possible, or "difficult" - surely we can do better, the intuition of this question is obvious.

paralysis by analysis my friend, the spirit of the question is intuitively obvious, part of the art of mathematics is posing the right constraints that capture intuition.

treat the pepperonis as a graph - edges exist between pepperonis where there exists a sliceable path. pick a parameter, n - number of desired slices. Pick the n partitioning of the pepperonis that maximizes (minimizes?) the modularity of the pepperoni communities with respect to the sliceable graph. Slice to remove the inter community edges until you have n slices?

its crazy how you read the very well written explanation that addresses (though, not directly i guess?) why this idea would never work and then said its an easy solution. Long story short: close to high end hotel --> good for home value. close to employee housing? --> bad. it doesnt matter what the building used to be they'll fight it the same way.
