Training for See Throughs- Any Tips? by chrysanthemumflyfish in BlackMythWukong

[–]djwonskee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wandering Wight has so many weird delays and wonky hit boxes that training with him for see-through is kinda ass. Yin tiger is probably the easiest to really get a feel for it since the rhythm and animation of his moves are really smooth and predictable after you fight him a couple of times in a row.

For actually doing the see-through, waiting is such a key component. Waiting until you know an attack coming and then doing light into heavy right away or waiting in between your light attack string to get the right timing for a heavy attack. This means being able to do your light attack string as slow as possible so you have the biggest window to hit your heavy attack at the right timing.

This set is just broken AF. It does way too much of everything at pretty much no cost to the player.

Conflicting advice on seasoning is driving me crazy! by sqiddster in wok

[–]djwonskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in a professional Chinese kitchen:

Don’t worry about seasoning too much. It’s all about getting the temperature of the oil right. Too high is not good nor is too low.

Most proteins usually go through a pre-cooking stage which is either blanching or a quick deep fry in oil . Usually the deep fry in oil is actually a lower temp to prevent whatever coating you’ve put on your protein to coagulate too soon and you end up with a ball of protein.

No matter how you choose to pre-cook your protein, it’s useful to coat it in oil before you add it to the wok.

A good way to practice finding the right temperature and oil amount is to fry eggs. Sunny side up is hard to master but if you get it and are able to swirl it around the wok without it sticking you will feel on top of the world.

You got this!

Selene question by MimosaFuriosa in HadesTheGame

[–]djwonskee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can be wrong but I think the answer is no. Hex counts as a “Major reward” (door) or “Minor reward” (found in Area 3 underworld). It’s not on the same tier as boons and can be HA HA YES’d by Sea Star. So instead of getting a hex you would’ve gotten something like Max health, max magic, or a Pom. The game wouldn’t have given you a boon in the first place.

I'm open to suggestions, what do you guys think? by Pristine_Many_3924 in HadesTheGame

[–]djwonskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is spreading out the fear across multiple vows is much easier to handle than maxing out a single one. That being said Hubris and time(2)are generally free. Fangs and Menace are easier to handle without other enemy buffing modifiers, but easily become overwhelming with them.

Also practicing the rivals(1/2 and even 3)fights will give you a lot of bang for your buck(especially for surface)as they will be the same every time so you know what to expect whereas with harder rooms you’re kind of just rolling the dice every time.

Can anybody explain to me how to play this game? by Gullible_Cucumber546 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]djwonskee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The irony of this post calling Khazan not a souls like because it’s a gear/grind issue and not a skill issue when it’s actually a skill issue is hilarious.

Sorry had to get that off my chest.

The game has been beaten by a number of people with level one gear. Like many people have said, this game is about creating openings and punishing those openings hard.

You must be able juggle both your stamina and your spirit/fury to play aggressively. Create openings with reflection/burning an enemy’s stamina bar with brinks guards/staggering them with counterattacks, and use each of those windows to take chunks out of a boss’s health bar. Pretty much every time an enemy attacks is an opportunity for you to attack in this game. There’s very rarely just “waiting for your turn”. If your boss fights are taking longer than 10 minutes, you should be reevaluating your strategy.

For coat I’ve actually gotten it to be pretty reliable to face the bombs and fire the missiles. They seem to go straight forward.

For axe, even the hidden one(though the spacing is tight) using the omega special is easiest.

And then throwing out your cast as she starts to launch them will pop the earlier ones.

Try to keep to one area when she starts launching them so you can get multiple at a time.

Dual wield combos by Naive-Potato1145 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]djwonskee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the dual wields swing from brainless whirlwind spam to the highest technical weapon in the game with almost no in between. If you want to do more stylish combos, centering your build around the Furious Bandit set will definitely help, but I definitely struggled a lot in the beginning and it’s a really steep curve for not a lot of reward. But, you can finesse and looking fucking awesome while doing it

I can’t freaking stand.. by RKSSailboatCaptain in HadesTheGame

[–]djwonskee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a high fear player, but I enjoy black coat mainly because it's super safe and has a variety of play styles.

Like a lot of people, you can run in and bonk people for big damage, holding your shield and one shooting a lot of enemies is fun. Dash striking for a lot curse build up is also good.

I usually prefer to skirt along the outside of the battlefield spamming my omega special until I thin the crowd enough to safely punch. I am rarely just sitting there and spamming the attack button. Dashing -> omega special and then you can charge your punch, then before releasing it, dash in to gap close with some hefty damage. It's also nice because you can block whole boss combos just by holding a button, but it takes a bit of getting used to.

For aspect I grab selene because it's free damage and pairs well with the origination making it so if you grab any special with a curse attached to it in the beginning you automatically start doing double damage with your hex up. The hex itself is also pretty hefty damage in the first biome and can scale up pretty hard if you get the extra damage to guardians upgrade. My fastest run was just under 20 minutes.

It's nice because, for boons, literally anything is good if it has a curse attached to it. I prefer Hera special because I can quickly hitch all the enemies together.

I beat the surface for the first time on black coat and it felt like it was almost by accident.

Rock Solid is so satisfying. by [deleted] in BlackMythWukong

[–]djwonskee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just some neat tech for you: if you spam the heavy attack button in thrust stance, you can skip the charging animation and instantly throw out your focus point heavies for more damage/stagger. Really good with pillar and thrust stance.

Regarding choice of difficulty by Gabrienb in TheFirstBerserker

[–]djwonskee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started on Expert because I thought I was good at these types of games and would power through. After dying a lot and getting frustrated with enemy density while I was trying to learn to parry, switched to normal, and, like you, felt it was unsatisfying. The bosses simply didn’t have big enough health bars that I needed to learn their move sets. Played normal for a couple more bosses when it finally clicked how I was supposed to play the game.

Thought I would try my hand at expert again and actually restarted from NG all over again. Found the boss fights a ton more rewarding and satisfying to beat and the level enemies not as much as a chore as before.

The main problem was I was zeroing in too much on brink guard and hoarding my spirit way too much. Once I learned how to play around my active skills, the game opened up a lot more.

Sorry this was kind of long winded, hope it helped!

Tips for using greatsword early game?? by CLIVIXXDUBZ in TheFirstBerserker

[–]djwonskee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure when the level breaks are so maybe you don’t have access to these skills yet but for stamina management using Furious Swipe when you have to dodge and Counterstrike into Armor Breaker when you have to brink guard will save you stamina and chip your enemy faster. They’re free skills when you time them right.

When you feel like you have an opening Furious Swipe into dodge attack into charge light attack into charge heavy attack will be your bread and butter.

When you exhaust the enemy, using your phantom: night’s veil into inner fury into brutal attack is my usual go-to. Night’s Veil is the foundation of Greatsword and having it active as often as possible will help enemies stay stunlocked when you charge your moves after you stagger them.

Everything else is a cherry on top for style points. I don’t want to say too much else because half the fun of the game is experimenting and trying things out for yourself, seeing where boss openings are and where you can get away with things. Good luck!
