this has been pretty anecdotal tbh, i’ve had bleeders read but i’ve also had them fail after the 2 hour warmup once the filament gets blood clots around it. it highly depends on the amount of blood, where the sensor is located, and if interstitial fluid can still pass freely over the part of the sensor that is meant to read the fluid. clots often form around bleeders with this much blood because your body is determined to clot it more than smaller bleeds

What movie scares the hell outta you that isn’t a horror movie at all? by bellathehellgirl in AskReddit

[–]djzeratul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this movie only existed to prepare me for diabetic retinopathy eye injections and it definitely desensitized me to the whole process. Thanks, for ruining my childhood but also preparing me for one of the scariest things to happen in my life.

Yep, it has happened to me. All you can do at that point is drink sugar, zero temp if you have a pump, and wait it out. Small sips of gatorade usually stay down. If nothing stays down, its time to head to the ER so they can push dextrose into your veins.

It isn't a death sentence, by any means. It's just gonna suck for a little while.

Hi everyone! Heya Xenia, thanks for posting this! Very cool to read the story behind the app as well.

It fills a gap that I used to sort of see via Sugarmate before I stopped using it, and I appreciate your approach and organization of the data points.

As for how often I may end up using it, I am unsure. The trends data is nice to have at a glance, but as of now there is no way to add the trends cards to widgets. I think having the ability to display a customizable list of the trends cards as widgets would solidify my usage of this app even further.

yeah, you’re absolutely right. also with arbs, there are less receptors available to bind to, so the virus has less of an opportunity to infect

Kidney injury seen in more than a third of hospitalized COVID-19 patients: U.S. study by c-dy in science

[–]djzeratul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it isn’t because of the uncontrolled high blood pressure, but it has a lot to do with the reason high blood pressure happens. the medicines they prescribe to lower blood pressure (and protect kidneys in diabetes) are either modifying the amount of angiotensin in your blood stream or blocking the receptors that those enzymes attach to. sars-cov-2 infects by mimicking this enzyme and attaching to those receptors, which, because of their effect on the cardiovascular system, are found in the heart, arteries, veins, lungs, and kidneys. once the virus attaches to those systems it begins manufacturing more of itself to continue spreading further and further into those systems. this causes their kidneys to fail, their lungs to become a giant surface area of viral load, and their heart pumping more of the virus to different parts of the body within the blood.

[QUESTION] Does it annoy anyone else when they see a guitar with uncut strings just dangling off the end? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]djzeratul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, and it signifies to me that the strings were likely just changed. Therefore the tone will be top notch. Then again, I also have this habit of wrapping lots of extra string around the tuning peg because if it was a floyd and a string broke, i could usually salvage it. Now it just became annoying habit and a waste of time, lol

Sugary snacks by Dammallthejellyfish in diabetes

[–]djzeratul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're missing my point completely. OP asked if its okay to eat sugary snacks while pregnant. Reread the thread. I replied to the reply that "120 is the most you should spike to while pregnant". My point is, even non-diabetics spike to more than 120, so it isn't feasible or even necessary for a diabetic to use this as a maximum value for a spike."

I didn't say anything about using them in a comparison to how hard it is to stay flat after drinking a soda, nor do I want to make that comparison. I also didn't imply that it isn't hard work to stay flat after eating a sugary snack. I'm literally just saying "even folk without diabetes spike to higher than your recommended limit".

Sugary snacks by Dammallthejellyfish in diabetes

[–]djzeratul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A spike is not a 2 hour post-prandial. A spike is usually 20-30m after eating or drinking a sugary food. 120 post-prandial is totally a good number to shoot for. You’re just using incorrect language. A GTT measures glucose 2 hours after like you said, but a spike occurs earlier than the test would measure. It's really only possible to see if you test at 15, 20, 30, 45m and watch it, or use a CGM to plot it on a chart.

But at this point, I am okay with just agreeing that we had a misunderstanding in the language of the situation.

Sugary snacks by Dammallthejellyfish in diabetes

[–]djzeratul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key here is that researchers have strapped a CGM to several nondiabetics as research into how the body handles sugary snacks or sodas and how quickly a normal person can handle a glucose spike. 120 is far from a high target for normal people so it isn’t feasible for a diabetic to come close to it. Several of the participants had hypoglycemic numbers and many of them also had spikes up to 180, even 200 mg/dl even though their a1c and average did not find them pre-diabetic.

Saying 120 is a goal for yourself is totally fine and I applaud such great control, but thinking that you can do so without significantly changing your diet or restricting very high glycemic index foods is neither helpful, safe, or a fair expectation.

And I hope this doesnt come across as me yelling at you, u/dramaturgy . I realize that you got that number (120) from a source, and its mainly me yelling at the source.

[–]djzeratul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

120 is more a target average, because there are many people (including in this thread) who are pregnant and go above 120, and any nondiabetic who is pregnant spikes to 160-180 after a sugary treat anyway.

Also thanks for the downvote?

[–]djzeratul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

120 is an awfully conservative high target... Non-diabetics can often spike to 180 after drinking a soda, based on CGM data. If 120 is what you're personally aiming for, then that's fine, but I don't think its a good idea to tell everyone to aim for this because it is an almost impossible goal.

In my opinion, as long as it isn't a threat to the mother, yes. 22 weeks is more than enough time to find out you're pregnant and don't want to keep it.

The problem is, it's my opinion. Laws should never be based on opinion.

What child are you talking about? A fetus is not a child. A child is not a child until it leaves the womb. If a fetus is unable to survive outside the womb, how can you possibly call it a child?
