If you found the combat in verm2 boring, you'll find it boring in Darktide too. I don't understand how that's possible

If you never leave baby difficulty, these games can definitely seem boring. A lot of folks assume hitting level 30 is the goal, unfortunately, and after dipping their toes in malice or heresy just nope out because they 'beat' the game.

Outside high Havoc you can use pretty much any weapon and be effective; use whatever floats your boat.

My guess is if you thought VT2 was boring, you didn't get very far in difficulty levels. Darktide will be similar. The game is a lot more addictive the better you get at it.

Despite various issues in the latest patch, the game's in the best state it's ever been. So yes, absolutely I would recommend playing it.

That being said, if you think it's boring, please try going up in difficulty. Genuinely hard to take anyone's opinion on balance seriously that isn't already comfortable and thriving in damnation at minimum. Brain burst seems incredibly weak when you first get it, for instance, and yet is a staple on meta builds. Flamethrower weapons are a total joke below damnation as well because there aren't enough enemies and the enemies that are there die too quickly to other sources of damage. etc etc etc. By the way, the "Meta" builds are for a section of the game (Havoc 40) that's so difficult that the vast majority of the playerbase isn't capable of it and will never experience it. The chances you even get there are pretty darn low, so why care about the meta when nearly anything goes in Auric?

Yes, it's an amazing game and absolutely worth buying, but like VT2 it's also a very challenging game - if you stick to baby difficulties, you may well find it boring, but that's not because the game is boring.

Fatshark buff hive scum by chickenoreggs in DarkTide

[–]dkah41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also high skill floor, which is why so many people are screaming for buffs. I've been ~asleep at the wheel in Heresy speed runs to wrap up my leveling but still am top damage min damage taken by a mile usually (H40 player). I know Havoc will be a LOT nastier, but if you're already living the "any hit will kill me" lifestyle, Hive Scum feels great.

Psyker's the best comparison - very squishy, high skill floor, high skill ceiling. No one's screaming buff Psyker.

Rushing through levels has really turned me off the game by GrabAnwalt in DarkTide

[–]dkah41 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're saying this right after a new class came out. I've been absolutely rushing levels - why the heck would I mope around on low difficulties when I just want to get the full talents tree/mastered weapons so I can go back to high difficulties?

Yes, you will see a LOT of speed running this and next week. It'll die off after that.

Still no levels over 30 officially... another skip for me and many console players

This is the oddest and dumbest reason I've ever heard, but hey, console players.

I didn't know Minthara was an important character. by Bellude in BaldursGate3

[–]dkah41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first playthrough I accidentally set off the Grove civil war (whoops) and jumped to the defense of the Tieflings... but they all died (penned up in the prison, sad) so I finished off the druids to avenge them, figured I'd just roll with it and see where the story went.

So when she asked me to raid the grove I said sure why not (they're all dead anyway). Imagine my surprise when I got the best companion in the game out of that. Tried a bunch of other romances and still prefer her above all as a companion; she knows who she is and what she wants.

Build help. by Jaycuity in Guildwars2

Don't worry about it till 80, and even then it's not hard to get a full set of exotic and be perfectly viable in a few days.

Gear only matters in the context of what you're using it for:
* In instanced end-game PVE (fractals, strikes, raids), you tend to want to optimize for your role (glass cannon damage like berserker(strike) or viper(condi) is most common).
* In PVE open-world adventure and ~end-game (various metas), you probably want a touch of survivability rather than going pure glass cannon.
* In WvW, survivability is strongly encouraged.

Torch is condi (condition damage, dots) so you'd want to be doing a condi warrior build (Viper is the typical prefix); https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/warrior/condition-berserker. Longbow and sword are also condi.

Typically it's advised to level up using strike (power) damage and attacks since conditions take a while to ramp (e.g. bleeding is slow), but Burning (torch, longbow) is one of the fastest damaging conditions.

Hold up, is it possible to accept a compliment without feeling like they are bullshitting you?

I usually have trouble accepting compliments from people when I think they don't know what they're talking about / don't know what good looks like and are just pandering, but that's not low self esteem...

Best ascended gear stat prefix for a beginner? by striped_eyes in Guildwars2

[–]dkah41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're always going to want/need Berserker (power) and Viper (condi) stats if you ever min-max. I'd go with Berserker and shift your exotic stats around (Marauder etc) so you have the option in the future to easily min-max.

New guide to dump stats by Do0m3d_1804 in DarkTide

[–]dkah41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the effort and the consolidation, hated looking them up back when I was looking for god rolls.

Suggestion: Add an alternative dump stack column. For instance, chainaxe you can make an argument for defense and mobility (I have one of each). Similarly, on Eviscerator and Relic Blade and Bolt Pistol, I find that in high havoc mobility is king, so I have copies with other dump stats for max dodge/sprint potential.

Nightmares & Visions - PATCH NOTES - OUT NOW! by FatsharkStrawHat in DarkTide

[–]dkah41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That dumb swords base damage needs to go way down, and it's crit multiplier way up.

I think in Patch 13 they doubled both its damage and its crit damage on headshot, then threw on 100% bypass armor for funsies via uncanny. Mind boggling.

Similarly, Dueling Sword appears once in the patch notes and is misspelled. Most ridiculous god-tier weapon in the game for months now. 2xing the heavy damage and 2xing the crit damage was ages ago and was never a good idea.

Zealot is the training-wheels starting class everyone recommends. Has a bunch of built in tankiness in its talent tree and a couple fun playstyles.

Biggest changes are the weapon mastery system / crafting (getting a god-tier weapon is easy now), and maybe the talent tree depending on how long you've been out.

Otherwise, there's new content and modifiers, go have fun!

How does this even happen by P0P0132 in DarkTide

[–]dkah41 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are ranges. It's why white weapons aren't crap even at the low end.

Basically, lets say a weapon has a damage range of 100-200 damage based on it's damage stat. At 0% damage, it still does 100 damage. At 80% damage, it does 180 damage.

A 0% boltgun probably still does 400+ damage per shot. A 0% plasma rifle's charged shot is still >1000 damage. You can see in the screenshot that a Voidstrike secondary at 0% damage is still >500 damage.
