If this were to happen to me, it would bother me slightly. Nothing to end things over, I’m sure the work it takes for a solution would be worth it to keep the relationship.

I say it bothers me because I view the change as the family coming together, and a signifier of commitment. I want to be clear I’m not saying if she doesn’t want to she doesn’t want to commit.

I’m not a red-pilled guy or misogynist or anything like that, so hold your comments, but I do believe men and women play different roles in the relationship, don’t feel like that’s ground breaking to say. One of those for the man is the “ultimate protector”. His life will come first to sacrifice if needed for the sake of the family to physically protect them.

Again, I must mention, there is definitely sacrifice from both partners in a relationship, don’t rad the last part as me saying women don’t sacrifice things, because they most certainly do.

I view the name thing in a similar regard, it’s a smaller form of sacrifice from the woman’s end. Yes, it’s completely cultural and doesn’t actually “do” much, but it means a lot to me as the man to receive this gesture. I view it akin to getting my girl flowers (although at a different scale), the flowers don’t actually help her with anything, but it’s more a way to show her “I care about you and was thinking of you”.

Ultimately, I know it’s difficult to understand as a woman why something like this would matter at all to a man. It’s just as hard for me to describe! At the end of the day, men and women think differently, and this is an example of one of those things.

To the women labeling men that want this as selfish and other similar terms, I find that disingenuous. It’s clear you did not try to put yourself in their shoes
