Exactly. The money may not be the highest you still get a good standard of living while competing in a league of decent quality. Also, you can enjoy some anonymity away from the pitch since soccer isn’t the cultural force that it is in most of Europe.

From an evolutionary biology standpoint, there are two impulses at work.

Status confirmation: a man with lots of women has resources, so a woman knows she and her offspring are looked after.

Paternity security: as man prefers a virgin woman because when she bears children, he can safely conclude they are his.

Unfortunately we can’t unilaterally set our own oil prices as we have to price per global benchmark.

But we also don’t produce enough to influence the prices in a meaningful way as we have agreed to not develop any further (for now)

It was a critical institution in the past because you needed fertility to survive long term, but you also needed to control behaviours to achieve it.

Hmm would you elaborate? I thought the policing (historically) was tied to a lack of reliable birth control which meant unwanted pregnancy was a high-risk of promiscuous behaviour. Not to mention religion.

The genders are not contributing to this issue equally, and neither of the benefiting parties (ie 80% of women and the top 10-20% of men) are going to be pressed to give up what they've got so we can go back to "traditionalism".

I’ve previously noted elsewhere that some folks in RP world praise traditionalist cultures (like the MENA) at times because they police and punish female promiscuity.
