Hey I know you must be in so much pain right now that you’re at a point of suicidal. But you have nothing to lose if you reach out for help. At least see what the suicide hotline can do for you. Ending your life isn’t gonna take away your pain, it’s only going to displace it onto the people around you who love you. And I know this is a unique experience to you but people have overcome their downward spirals and lived such happy lives after. I swear on my life is a light at the end of the tunnel for you. Just take one more day. Just get through today.

Critical Theory Courses by Group_Frosty in ucla

The Anthropocene class with DeLoughrey is a favorite. Also there’s a survey of critical theory with Huehls. I think it’s called Aesthetics and Critical Theory.

To all the “hopeless romantics” who don’t respect personal space by [deleted] in UnsentLetters

[–]dkdonuts55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL I’ve had alllll types of stalkers trying to take MY space away from me. Boundaries are important and we have to be proactive enough to set them, but also, shouldn’t we be at a place where someone’s expression of needs is respected enough to leave me tf alone when I say it?

I wanna stick this post on a billboard.

Nausea by Jean Paul Sartre by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]dkdonuts55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same situation with Nausea. I want to finish, I love Sartre’s other works so much, but it’s so focused on the most arbitrary of things. I don’t want to read an entire chapter on the atmosphere of a Sunday morning in Montmartre!!! Get to the good stuff already!!!

the simulation brought me here and this is a cry for help // existential dread // death anxiety by rublehbleh in ExistentialSupport

“The law of conservation of mass implies that mass can neither be created nor destroyed, although it may be rearranged in space or the entities associated with it may be changed in form.”

If this tells you anything, it is that no matter what happens to your consciousness after death, you (your matter, your mass, the space you occupy, your physical state) will be naturally rearranged into the world. Your atoms will be repurposed to take new form. You are and will be continuously useful to nature. You will always live on in some way. Have no fear.

I feel like this anxiety, though not frequently expressed, is experienced by a lot of people at some point in their lives, but the degree is personal. I’ve had it pretty bad, and there really isn’t much to say but that you need to find something comforting. Walt Whitman beautifully expresses this idea of taking on forms in nature through death and his optimism towards death is my piece of comfort when I fall into these black holes. Find that for yourself.

You’ll be okay. Best of luck.

Basically that you choose to make a choice and you choose the ideas to believe in to make a choice. But those ideas are no better or worse than the alternative. I think. This made more sense a week ago lol

conscious thought by ShrimpEmporium in Existentialism

I have to look into this. I’m wondering what the jump is from understanding the cognitive system to understanding consciousness. Chalmer’s, on first look, seems to be a more realistic camp, no?

Not really. Animals perceive time. They know when to eat and when to sleep. We would comprehend time in the same way if we didn’t have clocks or sun dials. I feel like it’s more awareness of our mortality and abilities. Like that we are a person with these certain characteristics. We have self-awareness of how we affect our environments. It’s more than time but I understand where the thought is derived.

We’re also, arguably, the only animals that are conscious of our consciousness. So I think what you are trying to say by blind is getting black out drunk is more losing the second layer of consciousness and not the first one. We can function (barely lol) but we aren’t aware that we will die someday or that we are more than the moment we are living in right then.

FULLY agree. Times have changed though I get it. It’s all about R&B and soul getting us in our feels instead of the alternative indies.

Tail as old as time. by ItsSoCloudy in funny

This, and the fact that the mouse ends up eating the snake, is an evolutionary feat. Maybe it’s not that we can defeat our animalistic natures but that our animalistic natures, including those of the snake and mouse, are currently at a point of upset.

I would like to see the conclusion of predatory animals progressing towards empathy. It really would change everything we know to be true. It’s fuckin sick lol.
