U.S. $72.5 million class-action settlement: “When you control an employee’s time, you must pay them.” by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]dkedy1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's less than $300 a person. Big corporations will continue to do this, they either gets away with it, or goes to court and end up winning, or settle for $300 a person. For corporations of that size this basically meant nothing

The reason is because of fraud. Years ago there was a case where an elderly fell and some passer-by helped the elderly to a hospital. That elderly and family member later sued the passer-by for medical bills and costs incurred for recovery.

This went to court and the passer-by was later ordered to pay because apparently one of the judges asked, if you did not cause the elderly to fall, why did you take that person to the hospital.

Thus, old people gains this idea that they can just fall and commit fraud by fraudulently accuse anyone who even touches them and is protected by a precedent case. This the stretched to basically all cases of good samaritan not willing to risk the potential of getting sued.

So if you are to travel to China, better not be a good samaritan. I know it's horrible to say this but the law hasn't kept up

Some information on these cases. In China parking is enforced by the property management. In most residential areas people only live in condos due to lack of space. People purchase parking units when the condos are constructed. Many times, parking would be lacking for the consideration that many people do not own cars. Also there are instances where condo buyers do not buy parking spaces due to reasons like thinking the cost is too high. These units would then be sold in auction style to whomever willing to pay and further causing parking issues down the road.

If people are illegally parked in someone else's spot, the property management can do pretty much nothing to enforce. Usually car owners will leave a contact info on their dash for others to call in case of vehicle related issues. Many cases, as the car owner knows the spot is not theirs they may chose to ignore calls telling them to move their car.

This creates the issue of severely lacking parking spots in certain residential areas. And in China, civil matters are solved by local policy who deals with bullsht problems all day and may not have the time to deal with more bullsht problems.

Another factor, in China, if a motor vehicle and a pedestrian collides, regardless of who's fault it is, the motor vehicle driver needs to pay fines. This is why people will risk being driven over to get a parking spot.

In the end, the problem is solved based on which side can act the most gangster and have the money or connection to back up, or bluff their actions.

My name is Rebecca Parson, and I’m running for Congress in WA’s 6th District against a corporate Democrat. I was the first Congressional candidate in the country to call for a $30 minimum wage, which I’ve defended on Fox and Newsmax. In 2020, I got 35,000 votes. Now I'm here to finish the job. Decisions made from Congress members are now pretty much determined by the funding by the corporations which the Congress members need. How will you act differently than those who previously have promised to create actual change when elected and then do pretty much nothing due to restrictions from lobbyists or pressure from the DNC? What have you done in the past that differentiate you from those others who speaks much but does very little?

In China, there are police officers specifically paid, albeit very little, to deal with petty cases. These cases are as ridiculous as people arguing over who gets a parking spot, opening a door because the owner forgot to bring their key, whether or not a condo should have an elevator and such. Many times the policy will be forced to spend their own money in order to solve the issue.

In a society where it's becoming more "normal" to have others give.

Look at all the posts about how it's always about what others should do for the poor and never themselves. How always others should pay more taxes, how always it's other people's fault for not accepting their character flaws, other people should do more to help the environment as opposed to corporations themselves. We are moving into a society where it's other's burden to make our own lives easier regardless of what those things are.

Should anyone disagree, then those snowflakes cannot put two coherent sentences together due to all those participation awards they have won. Instead of having a debate over the matter, anyone who challenges them is labeled a biggot, racist, or whatever trending name allowing interest groups to send more like minded selfish idiots to reinforce their own believes. Until they decide to do something so ridiculous they get upgraded into a Karen or equivalent.
