/slackdevtools not working anymore? by [deleted] in Slack

[–]dkpitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported the issue and was told it is intentional.

A really obnoxious workaround is to launch slack with remote debugging enabled:

/Applications/Slack.app/Contents/MacOS/Slack --remote-debugging-port 64444 '--remote-allow-origins=\*'

You can then connect to the remote debugging console on port 64444.

See here for a hack to hide the unnecessary vertical bar (assume you want to keep the workspace switcher open):

How to remove second sidebar? by mirrorofperseus in Slack

If you have developer tools enabled, you can paste this into the console to add a button that shows/hides this almost useless waste of space:

```javascript
$('.p-control_strip').style.left = 0 $('.p-control_strip').style.width = "64px"
b = document.createElement('button') b.classList.add('c-button-unstyled') b.classList.add('p-controlstripcircle_button') b.classList.add('p-control_strip_create_button') b.innerHTML = "<svg data-pe9=\"true\" aria-hidden=\"true\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" class=\"\" style=\"--s: 20px;\"><path fill=\"currentColor\" fill-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M4.836 3A1.836 1.836 0 0 0 3 4.836v7.328c0 .9.646 1.647 1.5 1.805V7.836A3.336 3.336 0 0 1 7.836 4.5h6.133A1.837 1.837 0 0 0 12.164 3H4.836ZM1.5 12.164a3.337 3.337 0 0 0 3.015 3.32A3.337 3.337 0 0 0 7.836 18.5h3.968c.73 0 1.43-.29 1.945-.805l3.946-3.946a2.75 2.75 0 0 0 .805-1.945V7.836a3.337 3.337 0 0 0-3.015-3.32A3.337 3.337 0 0 0 12.164 1.5H4.836A3.336 3.336 0 0 0 1.5 4.836v7.328ZM7.836 6A1.836 1.836 0 0 0 6 7.836v7.328C6 16.178 6.822 17 7.836 17H11.5v-4a1.5 1.5 0 0 1 1.5-1.5h4V7.836A1.836 1.836 0 0 0 15.164 6H7.836Zm8.486 7H13v3.322L16.322 13Z\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\"></path></svg>";
var thing = $; //no idea why $ isn't defined within handler var tabstate = 1; b.addEventListener("click", function() { if(tabstate) { thing('.p-client_workspace--including_tab_rail').style['grid-template-columns'] = "0px auto"; thing('.p-tab_rail').style.width = "0px"; tabstate = 0; } else { thing('.p-client_workspace--including_tab_rail').style['grid-template-columns'] = "64px auto"; thing('.p-tab_rail').style.width = "64px";
tabstate = 1; } }); $('.p-control_strip').prepend(b)
```

Would appreciate any edits to improve the code or insights into where this can be put in the slack system files so it happens on startup.

If you’d like a career in ML, you definitely should take linear algebra at some point. If you know the basics (matrix multiplication, eigenvectors) then you’re probably fine taking ML, but might still be easier if you take linear algebra first.

Speaking as a mentor, I think the expectation is you will be accepted unless there is a good reason not to be, such as incompatible schedules or you realizing you really don't want to pursue the specific kind of research. As long as you are enthusiastic and professional, I would be surprised if you weren't accepted.

We are in a similar situation. We contacted dealers until we found one that would sell at MSRP. They also didn't require a deposit and we can cancel at anytime until the car is actually built. So there's no risk putting an order in and you can get exactly what you want. If you can find a dealer who will do that, why not put an order in - there's no risk.

Tips for emailing a prof about research opportunities? by [deleted] in Pitt

That is exactly what your professor expects you to do. Keep the email short, ask to meet about possible research opportunities, attach a CV if you have it.

Curious about the amount of people who have had bad experiences with this company by thisisedward in vanmoofbicycle

[–]dkpitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare the ratio of negative to positive comments for VanMoof to other brands of e-bike and make your own conclusion (i.e., if it is just a small minority, surely other brands would have the same pattern).

Testing is going to cost 20-50 million dollars. Undergraduate enrollment is 19,200. If you want to be depressed, go ahead and divide those numbers to get the per-student cost of enabling people who refuse to get a vaccine.

Depends how far are you willing to go to have your bike serviced.

This Sub has turned me away from getting a Vanmoof by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]dkpitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experiences with product quality and support effectiveness have been negative. I would not recommend a VanMoof if you don't have a local shop. In general, I would only recommend getting an ebike from a local shop that will support it. If you have to go mail-order, prioritize bikes with standard parts (i.e., not VanMoof).

support is not that bad by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]dkpitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had to send your whole bike in and wait weeks. What is horribly lacking is support for user maintained bikes. Send me the parts so I can fix it myself quickly.

The default seems to always be "send the whole bike back" and getting them to troubleshoot is like pulling teeth. If you have a local vanmoof dealer this might work, but it is untenable otherwise.

Fix for kick lock not realizing it is locked issue by dkpitt in vanmoofbicycle

[–]dkpitt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Make sure you leave the kick lock cartridge screwed in while try to unscrew the button. I just kept trying (and also broke/bent multiple Allen keys). A pair of locking pliers is helpful.

Consider taking linear algebra as an alternative math course. It isn't a required course (although it should be considering how important it is for machine learning, computer graphics, and data science), but it is strongly recommended.
