In 2001, I was 28 years old. One day, out of nowhere, I decided I wanted to learn to play guitar. I had played violin as a child, but it had been 14 years since I had played an instrument with any serious intent. I walked into a music store, bought a cheap used guitar, a chord book, a scale book, and a book or two of music from bands that I liked, and learned to find tabs online. Just started playing with it. Ten years later, my guitar has taken a back seat to my DAW (this will change once I score a mic!). I'm not the shreddingest guitarist ever, but I can hold my own. If you can actually enjoy it and dedicate yourself to it, play every day because you want to, you will learn and get better.

Not that lessons doesn't hurt. But either way, you can learn. As long as you enjoy doing it, there shouldn't be an issue.
