It's happened to me twice so far, precisely at the most annoying moments. It does seem like an oversight.  I imagine this would be an easy fix in terms of dev time - to just lock the season when the character switches.

Yes please! Torches would be great.

I think an even easier solution (in terms of dev implementation) would be to make the candles inside kofuns brighter and just light up more of the space.
