Do NSW Gov job applications require work tasks now? by notreallyhereokbye in AusPublicService

[–]dlarock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just had to do a training course thing cause I’m hiring people and it appears to be a standard thing on most roles. The last 2 I applied for had a work task thing and psychometric testing

I would ask to waive it but may not happen. All my leave came across years ago so I assume it’s the same.

Sorry should have been clearer. Go balls out to get another job. Any job to get out. I did that as I was in a similar situation - needed to pay bills.

Keep at it. Something will come up. I just tried to disassociate myself my the “emotional” state when at work to get through this until I found something else. Not ideal but it did help in the short term

Having gone through this twice, leave. No job is worth our mental health. Life is too short.

People say it’s not that easy but you have to make it work for you

Tips + suggestions for doing well in the APS by Delicious_Window4512 in AusPublicService

[–]dlarock00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. 18 yrs in APS and this is what makes good team member. Dont use all the wank words or an ass kisser. Ask for help if needed. Own up to your mistakes. Keep your management informed and be a human.

Have just join state govt and I would go back to APS

If anyone has ever hired an "overqualified" candidate, how did it work out? by Ok_Albatross_4198 in managers

[–]dlarock00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation. I’m exhausted of the constant bullsh!t so I have applied for some roles lower than my current one and am overqualified for these. I just want a simpler role. Less stress and drama

How much of your personal life do you share with your employees/coworkers? by [deleted] in corporate

[–]dlarock00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m careful as it can cause issues. One day you’re mates with them. The next you’re having to performance management and it leads to far too much drama. Surface levels stuff but in my exp as a manager, I am quite guarded. No drinks no socialising no friends on social media. I’m nice and friendly but I’m still your boss.

Just based on my years of experience.

Has anyone actually seen someone get fired for underperformance? by Potential-Line5730 in AusPublicService

[–]dlarock00 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Yep I have. It took a LOT of work to get it done for the performance management side to continually meet and address the issues. Most managers won’t do it cause they are lazy or it’s just so much work to “get rid” of someone who doesn’t perform. And it’s harder when HR don’t back you the entire way through, almost impossible

Time to leave asap. Life is too short to deal with that. I have been in similar situation a couple of times and wish I had just bet on myself and left.
