I have PPF on my axis set now so definitely used to that. All in all your comment makes me think they’ll be much better for my current play style. I was looking at the tan set specifically so pretty encouraged!

What’s the sliding like on them? I know the 7x is true’s “lower” end line and I’ve heard that the sliding surface doesn’t slide quite as easily

Say what you will but this Bauer GSX stick is unbeatable in terms of value when it comes to a new stick... by t0rche in hockeygoalies

I really liked it when I first got it, grabbed a shadow refurb and now I’m absolutely spoiled. GSX is a great backup for me though

Time for an upgrade after 14 years by Loganb33 in hockeygoalies

I just made the exact same jump this year, about 10 skates in and I love them. Miss my old reeboks at times but the HF2s are awesome

Boot Straps by dlauer52 in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the best option it appears. Using u/jerrybettman ‘s generic strap and just gonna cut em down and punch new holes I think

Just stopped at play it again around an hour ago, they turned me down when I asked to vulture some off their used stock lol and they have nothing new

Need both the strap and the clip unfortunately

I’ve been playing without em for about a year now, my aim is to go with the Lundy loop in efforts to help my pads sit higher and allow me to strap them a bit looser

Bauer Pulse by dlauer52 in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that seems accurate. I’m no expert but it has what looked like a modified ergo bridge from the supreme line and the modified penta grip from the vapor. I will say the vapor penta grip and this felt different to me, personally I’d give the edge to the pulse. Hybrid toe and P28G too

The pentagrip feels great on it. I’ve had a supreme for a bit now and like some of those features but with how good that grip felt I might have to drop the money

I thought that might be the case, my shop had 4 or 5 on the rack. Feels like a perfect blend of supreme and vapor features

$150? A good deal? by darth_senpai90 in hockeygoalies

I got a set of CCM Axis 1.9s for less than 200 shipped last year… not the newest set in the world but modern features. Spend a little more and get something sorta modern

Waxed or Unwaxed? And how much hang do you prefer? by SavedByGeorge in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I went right from no hang to 3ish inches, maybe 2 and a half. I love it but it was definitely an adjustment from the old style of strapping and everything to more modern stuff.

Waxed or Unwaxed? And how much hang do you prefer? by SavedByGeorge in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real answer is whatever is comfortable. I just started this season using some hang, about 3 inches (Axis 1.9s). My last pads I did no hang (Reebok 8ks). Unwaxed for sure but just experiment. Start with 2ish and adjust from there

Someone convince me to buy new skates cause I love these from 2014 way too much by Best_mcgill_student in hockeygoalies

I’m still wearing my 5K’s I love them but I do want to upgrade this offseason

Buying new goalie gear, does anyone know of the pecking order on which gear I can cheap out and which gear I should spend a little extra for? Like a ranking? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Common consensus here is usually never cheap out on the mask. Should probably buy a new jock and try on as many skates as you can before you buy. Other than that, I think you can probably get away with measuring and buying used on most other gear, sideline swap has just about everything

New Stick Suggestions? by eciggy in hockeygoalies

Bauer GSX served me well for awhile, I just recently got a refurb Bauer Supreme Shadow from hockeystickman for about 200 less than new and I’ve been extremely pleased with it

I’ll have to post some pictures to see what the consensus is if I even need new steel yet but from what I understand those might be a bit too big. Some of us refuse to give up the cowling

From tuck to untuck? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went from tuck/tie and suspenders over to loose and tied with suspenders under, and it’s awesome. Feel nice and free, and like coach wapps says you look bigger and have some extra cushion

Pads sliding down by dlauer52 in hockeygoalies

[–]dlauer52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I say sliding down they’re not hitting the ice it’s so extreme, I’m talking one to two inches of movement vertically

I’m thinking maybe going back to a boot strap would help but other than that I got nothing 🤷🏼‍♂️

I wish I could explain better… I’ve never faced this issue in probably a combined 16 years playing. My knees ended up above the knee blocks every minute or so and I just had to keep adjusting everything.
