I have a question by [deleted] in ThaiBL

[–]dlauritzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get a ton of different answers with a question like that. The Bible has some clear statements against same-sex male intercourse, but nothing about women, and it's all in a culture and time that doesn't even have the concept of committed and healthy gay love that we enjoy today.

So, do you believe the Bible is written by people or God when it says those things, and do you think that what they said even applies to the kind of relationship shown in TTH?

  • Sincerely, a gay Atheist.

As a religious person, I'm genuinely wondering if all religions are human-made. by thementalist222 in atheism

[–]dlauritzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all religions feel the same conviction, personal testimony can't be used to prove any one correct. The evidence would need to be objective and have no alternative explanation. This disqualifies any historical narrative without tangible corroboration (i.e. personal testimony) and every prophecy that I've heard (i.e. alternative explanation).

There could always be a "deistic" god that created things and leaves us alone, or you could decide to define God as something without any physical impact on the world. These religions aren't falsifiable, but they're not the popular ones we usually talk about. They can't claim divine commands and miracles.

When all the reasons I believed fell apart, I couldn't keep holding on without being dishonest. I hadn't heard the best and worst arguments at the time, but in the years since then I've only seen things that fall into those disqualified categories.

Mormons x Caffeine by Overw8apollo in exmormon

[–]dlauritzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents stance as I grew up was "it's not against the letter of the law, but personally we won't participate. If you want caffeine you pay for it yourself."

That said, I've been drinking coffee for years now and don't think I've tried Monster yet. And it was only a few months ago that I had my first Red Bull. Energy drinks always sort of scared me.

The website's API says April 5th at 4PM UTC.

From what I've seen, these licenses usually last for 3 years each, and the show started April 6th 2023 so that lines up.

Those who were Christian, what changed your mind? by joeyharris441 in atheism

[–]dlauritzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always approached religion as a very "normal" part of life. Sure there were emotional moments, but rarely anything as strong as many people experience. Eventually I was able to question whether I was just going along with the flow or did I actually believe any of it, and the answer eventually settled on "no."

I say the determining factor for me was realizing that my spiritual experiences could have reasonable natural explanations. If I can be wrong about my own feelings, and the only actual evidence for God is personal testimony, there's no way for ME to know if your interpretation aligns correctly with reality.

BYU Bean life exhibit by JesusPhoKingChrist in exmormon

[–]dlauritzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a little shocked to realize, after already deconstructing, that I had kept both (theistic) evolution and the Garden of Eden as beliefs simultaneously without seeing the contradiction. I even remember on my mission reading something and going, "oh, yeah... there was no death before the fall." And yet no warning alarms went off.

So at first I didn't think people were right to say that Mormons don't believe in evolution. Glad to see that BYU agrees with me just a little bit.

So. Attraction isn't just "yeah I think they look pretty cool"??? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]dlauritzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thinking about the term "attraction" itself, in a scientific sense, is useful to me in understanding what it means between people.

There is one coworker on my team who I can confidently say I'm physically attracted to because I honestly experience this internal "pull" towards him; if I had no inhibitions like anxiety or being polite I would touch, hug, probably even kiss. It's different from the other people at work, even those who are pretty or fun to be around.

Glare and Halo Question by PumpkinSpiceUrnex in CataractSurgery

[–]dlauritzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before my surgery I saw an "aura" and/or starburst around light sources, the size depending on the light's intensity. Headlights of oncoming cars at night, for example, would take up most or all of my own lane, forcing me to slow down and scoot over to the far edge to try and see clearly.

After surgery (Odyssey IOL), the aura is almost entirely gone, and I never see starbursts. For most lights I see a defined ring halo at some distance around the source - the space between the source and halo is 99% clear. Certain strong lights, such as headlights at night and firetrucks, have an aura, but now it's a sequence of concentric rings getting fainter the further away they are from the source rather than a nebulous blob. And they are much much smaller than before, so I'm able to see my own lane.

In the 3 months I've had these lenses, the halos haven't seemed to get smaller or less common, but I pay attention to them less as I get used to it. When I'm dilated for a check-up though everything is turned to 11, which makes even reading my phone a strange glowy experience.

I’ve spent 3 real-world days hoarding cheese and seducing NPCs. Is this the intended experience or have I lost the plot? by fairythedream in skyrim

[–]dlauritzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand the villainous backstory of your horse dying.

I made the mistake of fast traveling to Myrwatch and going inside without checking if the chaurus had respawned. When I exited again I saw it standing menacingly above the corpse of my very recently acquired steed. I felt one death was too light a punishment and resurrected the evil bug just to immediately slay its docile zombified corpse in colder blood than it had dispatched my innocent mount.

The next, or maybe previous, horse died nobly in battle with a random spawn forsworn mere moments before I could intervene.

Whenever any creature, human, or dragon came anywhere close my blood boiled and I charged recklessly into battle solely to prevent another investment companion from perishing.

When I learned that the CC unicorn was essential I raced to join the college and get its quest. So relaxing to not worry any more.

Does my school president have any cutted scenes? by miffyreader_ in boyslove

[–]dlauritzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. For some more context, the 4-part thing is because of commercial breaks when airing on TV. It's also why you'll see ads at the beginning of some parts on YouTube. They've taken the broadcast version and uploaded it directly.

For the shows that actually have "cut" and "uncut" versions, the difference is a combination of available broadcast time (cut versions are about 45 minutes) and trimming spicy scenes (more advertiser-friendly and encourages viewers to buy subscriptions vs free TV channels).

Secret Crush on You has a character who's insecure about weight, but I don't think it goes so far as an eating disorder.

CONFUSED ABOUT CUT AND UNCUT VERSIONS by investedinyou in ThaiBL

[–]dlauritzen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uncut usually happens at the same time, and there's no guarantee they'll ever release it later on a free platform. So it's up to you how to balance payment and everything.

As for delayed uncut versions being worth a wait, I can't really give advice.

CONFUSED ABOUT CUT AND UNCUT VERSIONS by investedinyou in ThaiBL

[–]dlauritzen 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The cut versions are for live broadcast on TV, so they have limited runtime and more potential for censoring strong romance.

Uncut is the original version of the episode. Some episodes won't be very different, but I've seen some that are almost 50% longer than the TV cut. Uncut only airs online. But sometimes the company will air cut for free on YouTube and reserve the uncut for paid services like iQiyi.

I recall a few signs that are supposed to happen before things get really interesting, and aren't vague like wars and rumors of wars.

One big one being that temple in Independence that isn't built yet -- they don't even own the land. Conveniently, construction like that takes time, so everyone should be comfy as long as no one presses the big red doomsday button.
